Replacement VMS4100 STB

My FIOS One setup consists of the following

2 VMS 4100

1 Mini

Asus Router as primary

Actiontec 6200 moca adapter

All was working fine until one of the VMS4100 threw a storage initialization error. The Verizon tech diagnosed as a hard drive failure and sent out a replacement.

Here’s where the adventure begins

I wanted to see if the old standing legacy was true, can you activate a replacement VMS4100 without a Verizon router.

Connected the new VMS4100 and left the Asus router in place. Called Verizon to activate. At 20 percent a message popped up for the network connection, The router you are trying to connect to is not recommended. If you continue your STB will not work as designed and your FIOS TVsupport will be limited.

The setup completes and all channels were unavailable when attempting to view live tv.

After some back and forth testing with the Verizon tech, he finally came back and said you must use a Verizon router for activation.

In the interest of getting the replacement VMS4100 activated I dug out the Verizon router. Unplugged the ethernet cable from the Asus router and connected the Verizon. Unplugged the coaxial cable from the Actiontec moca adapter and connected to the Verizon router. Powered everything on, confirmed there was internet activity.

Called back into Verizon support to confirm the replacement VMS4100 was activated.
This time during the network connection phase there was an error (1400?). Rebooted the VMS4100  and the setup process completes.

When attempting to watch live tv all channels are unavailable.

I connected the Mini into the same location and all channels as well as the guide is are working.
The Verizon tech states the replacement VMS4100 is defective and will send another replacement.

Disconnected the Verizon router and reconnected the Asus. Left the Mini in place so I could at least watch tv.
Any thoughts on this one? Can it really be a defective VMS4100?
