TV Freezing

Looking for more information on a suggestion to change to  MOCA 2.0 certified adapter with up to 5000MHZ.  If anyone can suggest one, that would be great. 

My tv's constantly freeze and interrupts viewing enough that it may be worth changing services.

Are the STBs the legacy 4100 series units that can connect using coaxial cable or are they the newer ones that utilize Wi-Fi?

I'm curious if the STB is detecting any error that are causing the freezing. For 4100 series units look here:

MENU->Customer Support->Top Support Tools->Connected Device Status (toggle to the STB)->Advanced Diagnostics.

At this point, green is "good", red is "not so good". Scroll through the various pages and look for any red. Page 5 of 5 is where Long Term Uncorrectable Errors are logged. Ideally the data fields that have numbers should show something along this line:

xxxxxxxxxx/0E-7.

This data field would be green as it shows no errors. If you see something like this:

xxxxxxxxxx/1E-7

then that data field would be colored red as it indicates an error occurred sometime in the past. If the error count is increasing, then there is a continuing problem.

Now, a check of the coaxial cable infrastructure is next. Splitters with wide open taps are bad news. Unused taps should have 75 ohm terminating plugs screwed on. Another option would be to replace splitters with ones that have just enough taps to meet current needs.

Coaxial cable that has been improperly prepped and/or has the connectors applied is another problem area. With the proper tools, coaxial cable is fairly easy to work with.

Last year, I made a video that demonstrates how to prep & terminate tri-shielded coaxial cable with compression connectors. Use of crimp connectors is OK. Use of twist-on connectors is a no-go.

Look here for more info on the Fios MoCa adapter for stream TV. It will help if your WiFi connection to the Fios box is poor:

I would recommend looking into MoCA 2.0-certified adapters. These adapters are designed specifically for streaming devices and can provide a more stable connection, reducing freezing and lag. I've heard good things about the Actiontec ECB6200 adapter, which is MoCA 2.0 compliant and has no moving parts, ensuring a long lifespan.

However, before making any changes, it's important to rule out other potential issues. Have you tried power cycling your devices or checking your coax connection? Sometimes, a simple reset can fix connectivity issues. If the issue persists after ensuring proper connections, then considering an upgrade to a MoCA 2.0 adapter might be the best solution.

It's also worth noting that old equipment can sometimes cause problems with newer technologies. If your current setup includes older devices like the WCB3000N, they may be at the end of their service life and could benefit from replacement. Upgrading to newer, faster-performing devices might be a good idea if you're experiencing consistent issues.

I would highly doubt it has to do with MoCA. MoCA only delivers Guides, which are largely texts, not images or videos. This has more to do with video encoding in the STB, so potentially a faulty Fios One TV Main or Minis box.

Or, you got severe interference on your coax line. Do you have a coax wire going to the streets, such as, a previous cable service drop?

Does Fios TV One Main box use WiFi? What? That's novel...

The newer STBs largely do away with coaxial cable connections and utilize Wi-Fi. I think there is some sort of Ethernet connectivity, but I have the legacy 4100 STBs here at home.

Clem is more knowledgeable with the newer hardware than I am. 😐

I just went to check my new STB installed in January. It says VMS4100 nice and square on the bottom, so no dice. We got the old stuff.

The new STBs look similar to the old 4100s. I think the new VMS doesn't have a coaxial cable "F" connector on the back. 🤔

I think the new VMS would connect to the ONT via an Ethernet cable while the minis use Wi-Fi. with some option for a hard-wired connection.  🤔

Clem could provide a more solid answer. 🙂
