When i first turn the TV on, most of the time I get a still picture of the last thing i was watching the previous night. I then must hit the channel up button to resume live TV. Can anyone help to figure out this strange situation?

Look here and change Screensaver Posters to none.
Main Menu > Settings > System > Fios TV One Mini Settings
Also look here and make sure Promotions are disabled:
Main Menu > Settings > Notifications > Promotions

All were disabled. Just noticed that something called TV Input Control was also disabled and looks like it should be enabled. Any thoughts?

That shuts off the TV when you shut down the Fios box. Also chooses the Fios box as the live input for the TV. Better left disabled. did you try wiping the box completely?
Main Menu > Settings > System> Reset Settings
Be warned it might wipe all DVR recordings you have and remove any favorites or schedules you have.
Also try unplugging power to the box for at least 3 minutes and plugging it back in.

TV Input Control. This set-top box feature can help you avoid experiencing a “blank" screen, “no video” or "no signal" message on your TV.
I think it worked.
