VMS1100 and eSATA is Verizon blocking its use?

I just upgraded to a VMS1100 STB. Looks like it does not recognize my eSATA which worked with my older STB (some kind of Cisco, maybe Cisco 435).
There's an eSATA port on the back and I found a manual online which says the box will support it. I go into the diagnostics on the box and it sees it... but apparently Verizon does not allow it.
I found an older thread discussing this very issue but it is locked. I held on to my old STB for as long as possible so I am kinda late to the game on this topic.

Same problem here. Verizon tech support told me the esata would work and they came in and disconnected the old stuff. The installer also told me esata would work. WRONG. I spent > 1 hour talking to tech support and customer service and they said tough luck. Quoted some note in their files that said it doesn't work on VMS1100 and they might or might not implement it at some undefined date in the future. Obviously they would rather sell you upgraded storage internal to the box (installer said it had 1TB disk but you only get to use 500MB with the baseline DVR service). Have to fork out an extra $15 per month to use the other 500MB. And still less than I had before with a 2TB Esata.
VERY DISAPPOINTED in the wrong answers and the upcharge for less service.
