I presume, you moved the ringtones (,OGG files) to the same Ringtones directory holding other .OGG files?
If so, power down the phone, and power it back up. The "media scanner" of the Android OS, should pick up these new files, and when you go into settings to manipulate your ringtone, it should find them and let you select them.
Technically that should work. I wouldn't know why it wouldn't.

We're here to assist you, Phatony. Did you get your custom sounds and ringtones to work on the device? Have you verified if the features are up to date to run these?

Open settings
Open storage
Go to files
Go to audio files
Find the mp3/song you have downloaded
Highlight the file
Click ... In the upper right corner
Select "copy to”
A list of options will appear
Select your ringtone folder
It will look like nothing happened
Restart your phone
Go to your ringtone settings
Select the one you just added
Then do the happy pants dance!

Are you using a file explorer app that came with the phone or one you downloaded from the Play Store?
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Not sure with the XL. Just got a Pixel 2 and was struggling for a little bit. Had to hold the icon of the downloaded file for a few seconds and then got a blue check box. After that the 3 dots gives more menu option and was able to chose Move to move the file to the ringtone folder (had to navigate to the ringtone folder and hit the blue move button). It then showed up in the menu when assigning ringtones to callers (use 3 dots there when editing contact to assign ringtone).

The problem is that the Pixel does not come with a Ringtones folder. You must create one.
Once you have a Ringtones folder, you need to download the new ringtone as an MP3 file. You can email it to yourself and then move it to the ringtones folder which is a subfolder on the Pixel "Drive" which is one of the pre installed items in the list of all apps. It is in alphabetic order. I just did it and it works.

I just figured this out. It was driving me crazy! I used Sonos, but any good sound system should work. Place your phone near the speaker, Then using Voice Record, record at least 30 seconds of sound. Within the same app, go to the library and rename it. After doing so, you will see a vertical ellipsis (3 dots) to the right. Within that area "Save as a ringtone". That command will make it your default ringtone, but easily changed/managed within the ringtone area.

Thank you for this suggestion, LINSCH8. Were you able to try any of the suggested steps from the community, phatony? I understand the file is in your download folder. If you are still having difficulty with setting your ringtone, please visit the following link and start at step 7 since the ringtone is already in your downloads. http://spr.ly/6581D1dpH

Just copy the music into the ringtones folder and that's it. It should have one, and if it doesn't just make one. It should have a Ringtones, Notifications, and Alarms folder where you can put what you want in them for their respective names.

That doesn't work for everyone. I copied files to notifications and ringtones folders, but can only see the new notifications. Ringtones don't show up. Are there file-type or bit-rate restrictions?

I connected the Pixel 2 XL to my Windows 10 computer and then dragged .mp3 files to the Ringtone and Notification directories:
This PC\Pixel 2 XL\Internal shared storage\Ringtones\storage-0
This PC\Pixel 2 XL\Internal shared storage\Notifications
To connect the Pixel 2 XL to a Windows 10 computer:
Plug in usb cable to computer
Plug in usb cable to pixel
2 options from here:
1)
Look for notification for Usb plug in (see notifications by pulling screen down)
Pick more options
Pick Usb to transfer files
2)
Settings
Connected Devices
USB
Pick Transfer files
I chose .mp3 files from soundbible.com

Okay, I have the answer.
1. Download the audio file you'd like to use
2. Go to the files app and click the three dots in the top right, click the show internal storage
3. Do to downloads and find your chosen Audio file
4. Press and hold it
5. Click the three dots in the top right hand corner, click "Move to..."
6. From here, click the three dash or "hamburger" in the top left hand corner
7. Click pixel 2 (shows amount of storage you have as well)
8. Find "Notifications". This will be the folder used as you default notification sounds.
9. Click Move
There! You did it! It should be shown in the settings. Moving the file to Ringtones will place it in the call sound ringtone. Moving it to alarm will place it in the alarm sound area. I hope this helps everyone, I know it's helped me.

Go to files app icon, downloads folder
Find MP3 file
Hold down on file MP3 file
Tap on ... dots upper right hand corner
Select Move to, a notice will show at bottom of screen with 2 buttons, cancel and move, don't click on anything yet.
Look for the hamburger menu in the top left corner
Select Pixel XL
Look for Ringtones folder and select that folder
Now you can click on the move button at the bottom of the screen
This has moved the file to your ringtones folder
Exit out
Go to setting and search for Phone ringtone
Select My Sounds, you will see your MP3, select it and tap on save, this sets the MP3 to be your Ringtone.
