A European's Struggle to Unlock the Bootloader of a Verizon Pixel 8

Hello,

I am writing from France, having recently acquired a brand new, sealed box Pixel 8 from Rakuten. My intention was to install GrapheneOS on this device, but I've encountered an obstacle in that the OEM unlocking option is grayed out. A quick investigation leads me to believe that my SKU (GKWS6) indicates that it originated from Verizon.

Now, as a European, I find myself somewhat baffled by the concept of manufacturer-imposed restrictions on devices. Back home, we value our right to repair and modify the gadgets we purchase. Perhaps this is due to our region's consumer protection laws, which seem to be more accommodating than what I'm experiencing here.

I am reaching out to this community in hopes that there might be a way to unlock the bootloader on my Pixel 8. Any guidance or assistance would be greatly appreciated!

The seller can't do much since only Verizon has the control over the bootloader lock. If you can't help me, my only option is to return my Pixel and make sure I don't buy a Verizon one next time.

I think that is what Peter meant. Your only option is to contact the seller and demand a refund. They sold you a Verizon specific phone and there is nothing you can do and nothing Verizon can do. I hope they give you a refund and help make this right. This happens all the time unfortunately.
