I thought I was the only one having this issue (Verizon also had me thinking this). But I just found this forum and just found a post that perfectly outlines everything I've been through.
I'm still having the issue, had to contact them 2 days ago to have them remove all of the features from my account, re-add them and reset my Verizon network connections just to temporarily get my texts to work properly for the next few weeks and even that didn't work as well as it has previously because I continued to receive nearly 100 duplicate texts in the meantime.
I currently have my ~15th ticket open with Verizon which I assume will be closed soon with no resolution just like all of the previous ones.
Anyone have a permanent solution? Any Verizon folks on here that can help? I'm at my wits-end and ready to leave Verizon after nearly 20 years ...

Have you tried Googling for a solution? Or maybe someone on YouTube has put up a video with a fix.

I appreciate your reply!!
I've spent so much disappointing time on Google trying to find a solution with no luck. My issue is difficult to search for and here's why:
When my phone stops receiving text messages, I know because the last text that I received from one specific number starts repeating when other people attempt to text me (and it is always this specific number). As an example, if my wife were to text me, I wouldn't get her text message, I would receive another duplicate text from the one specific number.
RCS messages always seems to work. This only affects SMS/MMS
This issue is so hard to describe that it takes an hour just for the Verizon techs to understand and I've even had techs that I couldn't describe it well enough for them to completely understand. I took my phone to a Verizon store and physically showed them in real-time what was happening and they couldn't believe it.

You're welcome. That IS pretty weird...Can you block the number that keeps doing the repeating texts?

So the number isn't completely random, it's actual work text messages so I can't permanently block it because I need to see them; but I would be willing to block them for a while to test it. We'll see. That's for the advice!

Thank you for your persistence derekadkins88. Let's get a few more details, so we can work together on the text issues. Are you using the Pixel 6 mentioned earlier and what app are you using for your messaging? Have you tried a different messaging app? Are you connected to Wi-Fi?

Thanks for getting back to me Verizon support!
I am using a Pixel 6, I'm using the default messaging app (Google messages) and I have tried using a different messaging app (Verizon messaging app) it it didn't seem to make a difference.
For what is worth, I've cleared the cache, the data and removed and reinstalled the updates for the higher messages app and it made no difference. I also went through and deleted all of my text messages.
Couple side notes: I should have an open network ticket(I don't have that ticket number). I can send you a list of a few of the tickets I've had over time. And currently, my phone is working properly. I'm trying to get possible solutions so I'm not without text messages for 1-2 days...

Don't use Verizon Messages+ because it's getting shut down in a few months and functionality of that app has been going away because certain kinds of texting have already been disabled. As for random texts repeating - if it is a work-related number which is causing the problem, I think that must be some kind of security thing with your employer tracking whatever's going on with your phone and holding back legitimate texts. You'd have to talk to your company's IT to see about getting through the firewall or whatever it is that's causing the problem.

I don't use messages+ currently, I temporarily switched to it a while back to see if it would stop the issue from happening and it didn't, so I switched back to the native app.
This is the part that is incredibly hard for others to understand; me getting texts from my work does not cause the problem. However, when the problem starts, I begin to re-receive the last message from my work over and over. There's no correlation to when I last received a message from my work.
This is a personal phone that my work IT dept has no control over. They have my phone number to send me texts and that's it. In one of my original support tickets, Verizon did contact my work's IT department to see how they're sending the messages and must not have found anything because, like always, they closed the ticket.

Oh, no! Dealing with technical issues can be a headache, especially if you cannot receive text message. Verizon is here to help.
When did the problem start? What recent changes have you made? What other issues are you encountering?

Thanks for your reply.
The issue is intermittent and happens randomly once every few weeks. This has been going on for over a year. I've not noticed any other issues that coincide with this issue. I've also not noticed any patterns like the reception of a certain text etc.

Thanks for those details. Does this happen when you're at a particular location? Is your phone software up to date? You mentioned you have tried some troubleshoting steps so far. Do you recall performing any device resets?

Location doesn't seem to matter. It has happened at home, it has happened when we were hundreds of miles away from home, it has happened when I've been at work.
I am diligent about keeping my phones software up to date and it is currently up to date.
I have done so many phone resets, I've gotten to the point to where I keep nothing on my phone so I don't have to worry about backing anything up. Resets have never seemed to fix the issue.
Thank you so much for your reply! Please ask any other questions and I'd be happy to answer!

Thank you very much for the additional details. If you've already tried a factory data reset on the phone, and the issue still keeps happening, we want to take a closer look at the account and make sure everything is OK there. We're sending you a Private Message so we can better help.
