Pixel 9 keeps swithching to LTE

Question

My new Pixel 9 keeps swithing to LTE in exactly the same areas at home and work that my old Motorola One 5G Ace stayed on 5g and never even once went to LTE. The Pixel 9 always shows less bars everywhere than the old Motorola. I held them up side by side to compare several places in Indianapolis.  Is the Pixel 9 just an inferior phone?

No, it's probably just that the automatic band selection for the phones is a little different.  The bars are relative; you would need to look at the actual signal strength numbers for more accuracy.  Also, just because you have a 5G symbol showing on your phone, it doesn't mean the phone is actually running in 5G mode:
