I moved from a Pixel 2 to a Pixel 8. I transferred everything from my Pixel 2 (apps, settings, texts, files, etc) using the Pixel 2 backup on Google One. After I activated the Pixel 8, I check to see if all of my Verizon Messages (texts) transferred over, and it appears that some group MMS did not transfer over. For example, one group MMS only goes back as far as October 7, 2023. Why didn't all of the group MMS messages in Verizon Messages transfer over since they were backed up on my Pixel 2?

Probably a glitch in the Verizon data sync process. I don't use Message+ but I doubt you will ever get those missing messages back. I hardly ever start a new phone with a backup of a previous phone, I am one of those start fresh and setup from scratch people. But the few times I have needed to save text messages for a new, or factory reset, phone I use SMS Backup and Restore. It's free on the Play Store and works great, backs up all text messages to your Google Drive account and then restores them on the new )or newly reset) phone.

Hey cls66, Scott5337 posted some great suggestions and is likely correct about those other messages. I just wanted to add some additional insight. With Verizon Message+, when you install the app on the new phone, and restore the messages, only the last 90-days of messages can be restored. You'd have to use a content transfer app in order to move those messages, or back up the original messages like Scott5337 recommended. I hope this helps add some additional insight.
You can take a look at some content transfer options here: https://www.verizon.com/support/content-transfer/
