Visual voicemail notification sound now cannot be changed from the general default phone notification Pixel 7 Pro

Pixel 7 Pro. For years on every Pixel phone I've owned I have had my Visual Voicemail notification sound set differently than my default phone notification sound (on my particular phone I had Zen Success set as Visual VM notif). The notification setting is still set as that as we speak but every time I receive a Visual VM now I get the default phone notification sound every time. I never had this problem with any Pixel phone until the last month or so. I've already tried changing to another sound in Visual VM & nothing changed. I also cleared the cache & even uninstalled the app & reinstalled it to no avail. Additionally, I've reset the network settings. I've also contacted my carrier (Verizon) to see if they have encountered this complaint from customers & they had no idea how to remedy it. Also, within the Phone App Visual Voicemail settings, everything is greyed out & doesn't allow me to toggle on/off. Has anyone experienced this & know of a remedy?

I don't have another phone available to test my voicemail sound today, but I have seen other Pixel apps not use  custom notification sounds and always use the default even when a custom sound is set. Since this is baked into Android and nothing Verizon has any control over I would recommend posting this in the Google Community forums, you might get better responses there.  https://support.google.com/pixelphone/community?hl=en

I think I just saw a few posts from you on the Google community forum, maybe? I'm not sure why someone on the Google community site would recommend posting here, this issue has nothing to do with the Verizon network or Verizon specific apps or Verizon model phones. This sounds like a bug with Android 14 to me, if it just started recently.

Hey, thanks for the feedback, appreciated. I've gone back/forth with Verizon reps & Google reps and each one blames the other (Verizon said it's a Google problem, Google said it's a carrier problem). Google says to leave feedback via the settings, which I have but feel it's not being looked into. Verizon told me to take it to a Verizon store so that they could try to diagnose the phone. I know it sounds like it's not a big issue but for every Pixel phone I've had (my third now) I've always had my Visual VM notification sound set separately from the default phone notification sound. I got this P7Pro in Fall 2022 & never had a problem until now.

Which points to an issue with Android 14. Like I mentioned previously, this is not a new issue, just new to voicemail notifications. There have been bugs like this in previous Android apps where custom notification sounds did not work, and Google eventually fixed it. This is definitely a Google / Android problem, not Verizon. I would not go to a Verizon store, there is nothing they can do that you have not already done. You set a custom sound as your voicemail notification sound, it's right there in your screenshots. Verizon sales reps cannot do anything more than that, and might actually cause more issues with your phone. They are sales reps not tech experts. As far as getting feedback from Google, nope hardly ever. Unless you are in the Android Beta program and use the feedback tracker, then you can see their comments on your reported bugs. All you can do now is report this to Google and hope for a fix.

Not a Verizon Visual VM issue even though it's thru the Verizon Visual VM service/carrier? Sorry for the questions as I'm learning as I go & absorbing everything. Thank you.

No, not specific to anything Verizon. The Voicemail app is a stock Pixel app, it just connects to Verizon to retrieve your voicemail messages. But the Voicemail app settings are all Android and controlled / built by Google.

Ok, thanks for the info, you've been helpful with informing me of the details that's it's not a Verizon issue๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ I keep leaving feedback via my phone settings in hopes of a remedy but nothing yet. There's not even a phone app update on the play store
