"Invalid mailbox number" when I try to call voicemail

I have a Google Pixel and recently found out that my voicemail isn't working. I honestly don't know if it's ever worked since I got this phone because it's so rare that I get a voicemail.

When someone tries to leave a voicemail it says "Enter mailbox number." When I try to call my own voicemail from my phone it says to enter my mailbox number. I enter my 10-digit phone number, but it says "Invalid mailbox number." I've tried to have visual voicemail turned on and off and it says the same thing. When I try calling customer service or asking in chat, it just gives me a link to set up voicemail, which takes me right back to where it says "Invalid mailbox number." How do I get past this?

I found a thread from 2018 with pretty much the same issue.

Look about half way through Page 2. Sounds like you need to call Verizon customer support and have another phone available so you can talk to them while you shut off your main phone and they fix voicemail on their end.

We're sorry to read that your voicemail isn't working as it should. We'll be sending a private message. ~Peter
