3G Connectivity with ThunderBolt

Should I still be having problems with 3G conectivity on my ThunderBolt? I only have 3G at my house, and my phone keeps dropping it and I have no data service at all, not even 1X, before the 4G outage, the 3G was solid.

I do have 4G at my work, and the phone was using 4G Thursday and Friday there, but when I get home the 3G keeps going in and out and when it's out the phone shows "network error". I am located in the Akron Ohio area.

Is Verizon still working on issues?

Thank you for your feed back about not having 3G service in your area. In bkthomson's post, the location was not specified. So, it would hard to check and see if there are service issues. At the time of this response, overall we are not experiencing service issues. A suggestion would be to power off and on your device to see if it restores the service to the phone.

I have been having problems since before the outage. The radio will switch from 4G to 3G so much the battery would die out fast. I do get 4G but it cuts out a lot and bounces from 4g to 3g constantly. Whenever I browse the internet or go to the android market I get 'a network error has occurred'.

An update was released yesterday that should be pushed out to all thunderbolt owners that promises to fix the 3g issues so lets hope.At this point I can't get my work done because of data issues. I know Verizon/htc released this phone to please customers who were getting fed up of waiting so I guess now we have to deal with the issues.But I can't say its a bad phone.

Lets hope they push some updates out to fix the bugs, otherwise I'll just go back to my trusty DROID X.

I'm having the same problem, I thought it was only in 3G coverage areas but it's been happening in 4G areas over the last couple of days.

I called support and they didn't mention anything about the update,they gave me the work around when 4G was down but it locks it in 3G and I couldn;'t get that to work either. I found if I reeboot it works for awhile.

Same problem here.it was great before them outage. Then yesterday and today I couldnt get anything. Its been workimg again though tonight?

I am in a 4GLTE area. During the outage I first only had 1X speed. Then 3G came back online. I had to rebood my phone in order to get 4GLTE coverage restored. If you leave you phone on all the time (even when charging it) you may need to reboot after the outage to get the phone to start acting normally. In fact, any time the phone looks like it is acting up, I find that rebooting it solves the problem. :smileyhappy:

YES!!! I have the flakey 3G service too!! It ALLLL started right after the 4G outage. Before the outage, I had a perfect phone with perfect 3G data service, exactly what VZW prides itself with. Now at times, the connection will just fail and I'll have to reboot to get it back on and I do not want to keep doing this when I know my phone use to have perfect 3G service. Also, I've done the *#*#4636#*#* and chose CDMA auto for 3G only since I don't recieve 4G in my town. I've been doing this since I got my phone a few days after release day. I really hope they know that this is happening and are trying to find a soulution. I can honestly say that I do not have faith in my 3G connection with VZW.

In Columbus here, just watched my Thunderbolt go from 4G, 3G, 1X, no data, 4G, no data, 1X, 3G, 4G... All while simply sitting on my desk idle.

Did a few reboots, pulled the battery, reseated the SIM card, no luck. I hope that update hits the air soon and corrects this issue.

No problems before the major outage. It's getting to the point where the phone is just unreliable for general use. Very frustrating.

It seems there have been quite some issues with 4G switching to 3G but getting stuck at 3G. Sometimes data cuts out altogether. There was a software update to eliminate this problem which I would definitely suggest doing for improved service. See instructions in this link: http://support.vzw.com/system_update/thunderbolt.html

Hi Mike. Can you edit your post to remove that last period from the link (behind the 'l'). The link doesn't work with that period there, but it works fine if you copy and paste the link to your address bar, then remove the period.

Finally......other people who are having the same problem as me. NO 3G WHATSOEVER!!!! I can only get 4g and Wi-Fi at home. I live south of Atlanta on the fringe of 4g coverage.....the 4g goes in and out. I got my phone earlier in April and it was working fine, switching between the 3g and 4g flawlessly. I haven't seen my 3g symbol (or got the 3g service) on my phone since last Wednesday. I am getting tired of getting the run-around also when I call in to Verizon or go into the store. Supposedly the infamous first software patch was supposed to be released today to fix the 3g problem. When I went into the store earlier today I was assured by the Verizon rep that the software patch was "already getting pushed out", it was going to solve my problems, and it was just a matter of hours before we all got it. As of 11:48 P.M. on 5-3 as I am typing this message still no update. I am getting laughed at at work (where I can only get 3g) by my friends with Sprint Evos. :smileysad:

Additionally, I have rebooted numberous times, pulled the battery numerous times, and even done a factory restore on it twice to no avail.

I tried the software update this morning and got "No new software update available". I have tried this several times over the last couple of days and either get that message, or the one that states "The service is not available".

What is next MikeS?

A suggestion would be to power off your device for a good minute and power the device back on to to see if it restores service.

i'm in NY but whether i am at home or work its the same thing. I've tried battery pulls, restarts, and even factory reset. Im currently running stock, with no apps downloaded and i don't have any 4G service at the moment (i am in a 4G area) and i use to get 4G on the phone but it cuts out.

Iv'e lost data connection 3 times within 3 hours this morning here in NE Alabama. Pulling the Sim card and rebooting always gets it back, but having to do that every hour is getting very annoying. :smileymad: I called tech support after the 2nd loss and he said he reset the signal or something, but I lost data again within a few minutes. I got my phone replaced instead of those codes. Verizon said u would void ur warranty and terms of conditions w/ Verizon if u do them. Get ur phone replaced. I have had problems since after the crash. The codes are not a valid trouble shooting step although I disagree because it somewhat worked for 9 days before crash. They put blocks on apps to do the switch too. Tech support advised me of these things.

I lost total service in nh this morning so I restored it because I know I always have 3g at my house. Weird but 20 min later worked.

Knew I should have gone with the I phone, 6 days ago when I was inside the 14 day exchange option I would be taking this {word filter avoidance} to the store and getting the iPhone, I should have got in the first place. This whole up and down crap started today for me and has been a little screwy since the 4g outage.

So now I am stuck to wireless router via house internet. This is {word filter avoidance} Verizon is welcome to fill in the blanks. What a useless boat anchor of a phone.

Waiting for update having issues but I replaced my phone and its better now without update. I would call tech I did and its better now even before update. Battery life too way better. I get 6 hrs in 3g.

I normally do research before I buy, but this was a last minute Mother's day gift for my wife. How can Verizon sell me this phone knowing it has this problem. They didn't even warn me that I may experience this problem. I know its not Verizon's problem technically, but they sold me this phone knowing it probably wouldn't work after I bought it. Now I have 14 days to switch to a different phone after paying restocking fee. I have been a loyal Verizon customer for a very long time and this **bleep** me off big time. Even considering switching to a different carrier.

Tech support said it isent a normal trouble shooting step now as of April 29th. Before it was acceptable. It does more harm then good.

Why should I call CS when my Tbolt is working exactly as advertised. The 3G network is the eHPRD signal. I did the fix to get off 1x on the day 4G LTE & eHPRD was disabled. I re-enabled eHPRD after the network was restored. It was connecting to EDVO Rev A for a while, but since I don't have 4G LTE here that was acceptable. Now it is on the eHPRD network so all is good. I have used the info menu on and off for the past year. It hasn't hurt any of the phones I used it on. I also knew of the code for the fix for just about as long. I know another user on this forum had to use that code in order to reactivate their phone after a factory reset. Some of the information contained within either of these code is better left to the more advanced users, nothing more.

If people don't believe then ask them. I know what the code does but I would rather be safe then sorry. It helps I know but I wanted to point out that.
