ABOUT TIME!!
http://support.vzw.com/system_update/thunderbolt.html
Click on Benefits of Software Update it shows everything for this update MINUS that it starts rolling out tonight. *Crossin my fingers
you will all have to keep me posted. my phone never did show me the first update was available.....and still doesn't.....lol
I also live in Phoenix ... Mine has said "service unavailable" all day and still does ... Although it isn't the appointed time just yet. I'll keep you posted though.

thanks. mine has said "service unavailable" since the day i bought it...lol...i do recall that some people had to switch to 1X to find the first update (which still seems odd to me). i never messed with doing that. i'll go ahead and install it, if my phone even finds it???
Ann154 wrote:Forcing the phone to 1x requires a different menu. The instructions are buried in the Thunderbolt forum in threads about the first MR1 update.
I know I'm the one who posted it back then lol
Update:
Dial ##778# and hit send
* A pop-up window named EPST will show up giving you 2 choices: View Mode and Edit Mode. Pick: Edit Mode.* Enter the Password: 000000* Go down to Modem Settings and pick “Rev A“* You’ll want to choose enable and click OK, hit the menu button and then press “Commit Modifications.”
Your phone will then restart, once back on use LTE ONOff and select CDMA auto (PRL)
Then go into your setting and select software update then "Check new" and it should find the update.
I submitted this tip to droid-life.com and they used it on the website. I'm Aaron, which they mention at the bottom of the post

Keep in mind the update has caused alot of problems for Thunderbolt users so make sure updating is really what you want to do.
After updating follow the steps above but instead of changing the modem settings to "Rev A" change it back to "eHRPD"(make sure to press menu and "commit modifications" when you change it) Phone will restart again.
Then using the LTEOnOff app change it back to "CDMA+LTE/EvDo auto"
---------------------------
It wasn't really changing to 1x it was changing the Rev A setting to enable instead of ehrpd. Then toggling from 4g to 3g is how it was able to pull mr1. this process isn't working anymore though, atleast with me.
so what is EvDo???? because the lte onoff app will let you force it to that.
EVDO is 3G ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evdo
'CDMA Only' forces 1X for me.
lol....my bad. it was cdma that i've been switching to to get on 1X. it's been a long day. using the lte onoff app and selecting cdma only will force mine to 1X.
Actually now that I look at the instructions Tboltaz posted, it was from the LTEpocalypse that most of us needed to force the phone to 1x. All in the name of getting some decent data speeds. lol
Just curious if the issue I've had with no longer getting messages when I check for software update has something to do with this. Maybe it was in preparation fro an update push that we have no control over.
looks like it's already available at xda for the nonrooted and impatient ones who don't mind everthing being wiped.
I'd still like to know what is taking this company so f'ing long to get the gingerbread update out.
My roommate just got gingerbread on this Droid X. Monday I'm going to be reaming some people at the verizon store in my office a new one.
Mine still keeps saying Service Unavailable greaaaattt, anyone had luck getting it to install? if so how did you get your phone to not say service unavailable
Update: I set it to CDMA only and it found the update i clicked ok then quickly switched it to LTE only and it is downloading pretty quickly THANK GOD!!!!!! will update with how it is!
Update: Just finished downloading, phone powered off and it's rebooting right now !! </kidinacandystore> lol
Update: Boot screen is different! (sort of).Instead of the phone showing the clouds while loading it shows the thunderbolt logo, looks great. Still booting up...
Update: App drawer is not different **bleep**, 3g symbol is different, im gonna look around..
Getting great data speeds in Phx, AZ 17.73 down and 5.71 up
Update: I thought the app drawer was gonna be tabbed, well, it isn't i guess what they were talking about was when you press the menu button while in some apps the options are sometimes tabbed, only app ive seen it on was Go SMS Pro.
Device seems to be running smoother than it did before however, they quadrant score i just got wasn't too pretty. Mobile Hotspot was indeed turned off with the update and the hotspot icon is different than before. Not a big deal for me, i rarely used hotspot, it gives you the option to enroll in the $30 unlimited hotspot plan right through the hotspot app.
Overall it was a much needed update and seems pretty good so far. Time will tell if it fixed the rebooting issues/power off issues.
AZSALUKI wrote:Mine still doesn't find it....not even in cdma only. I used to think it was a phoenix issue, but I guess it's just a "mine is not such a smart smartphone issue"...lol
Remember with the Fascinate, there were some that just wouldn't take an update and Verizon replaced them. That said, if you want the update, I'd give it a while to see what issues come up and just grab the PG05IMG.zip for the update that's linked in one of the other threads instead of playing russian roullette with a CLNR. It'll wipe everything but 90% of the time, you're better starting off from scratch with these updates.
As soon as I get my Tbolt's battery charged, I'm thinking I might just factory reset and download the update. I have been meaning to factory reset this phone for the heck of it.
For those who got the OTA, can someone go into Settings-About Phone-More and post the Baseband Version

1.39.00.0627r, 0.01.69,0625r
ok, so looks like Verizon goofed on the pdf (not surprising).
Any one having trouble downloading the latest update if you put your phone into 1x it will download but it will be slooooooooow!!
mine doesn't even find it on 1X. i guess i'll do it manually at some point. i have a question though...under settings-->software update-->status.......all mine says is "source: verizon." the name, status, code, etc. are all blank. is this how it's supposed to be? does anyone else have info in this screen?
The software update is live people. I could download it right now but Im going to wait for reports before getting stuck with even worse issues than I already have right now. Who ever is brave enough keep us posted.

I also remember it was like that when I try to check for an update in the weeks before the first update. The only time it had information in the "Status" dialog was after the phone received the notice that the MR1 was available and I hadn't installed it yet. Speaking of updates, the last time I was able to pull the MR1 update from the towers near my work. It seems that the towers around home are being less friendly. The "Check New" command will act like it is looking but then the "checking for updates" dialog will disappear and it doesn't give me the results screen. It had said that there was no update available before. So I guess for now, I am still running MR1 on my Tbolt.
I wonder if you had not accepted the 1st update, you can't get the second. And the area under update status was blank for everyone. But now it does show update info after the update.
Im ?Having There Same Problem. I got The First Update (Although My Phone never Told Me It Was There I manually Found It 2 Weeks later. Now My Phone up Until Monday Was Telling Me No Update Available, Then Monday the Update Would Simply Stop With No Result Window (No Update Available Or Otherwise) I see A Few people Seeing The Same Thing Hear Any Of you Able To DL The Update Yet?? My Status Screen Says the Same Thing Just blank The only time I have Screen Anything on There was Right After I DL The First Update. The next Day after That It Went Blank again. When Check The Software On The Phone thou It Dose Confirm Im Running The First Update (Android 2.2.1) I Am In Tampa and Have No 4G Issues When Im At Work But I Live on The 4G Fringe So I Drop Out Between 4G And 3G When Im Home but I was Able To DL The First Update From Home. Not shore If This is A Problem Or Simply A Sign That The Update Will be Available To Me Soon Any help Would be Great....
