Battery heating

I have the original battery that came with the Thunderbolt. I noticed if I'm using mobile web for maybe over 20 minutes or so, I can feel the battery heating up. Is anyone else experiencing this with the original battery? Is this "normal"? I don't notice it heating up when I just text or use the phone for voice calls. It's past the 14d period when I can return the phone. My laptop was doing the same thing (heating up), until finally it "burned out" the inside and has had to be repaired several times. I'd HATE for the same thing tohappen to my Thunderbolt, especially since I have 2 years with it. (Footnote: I did not purchase the extended warranty.) Help!!!

Download from the market "Battery Monitor" application and it will show you much more information about battery including its temperature. Normailly working battery temperature (not during charging) range is from 80F (27C) and should not exceed 105F (40C). If your battery is getting hotter than 105F during normal operation, you are risking of damaging not just a battery but also internal components of the phone.

Next time you notice the battery get hot, open up your htc battery widget and see what the temp is at

you could also use spareparts (app from market) to monitor this so you don't have to remember the short commands.. it may be you have a defective battery, even after a 3 hour phone call yesterday my phone barely got hot

my htc incredible gets "warm" whenever i use it to browse online. i' wouldn't call it "hot" but definitely pretty warm. it's done that since day one, a year ago, but it's been fine.

I went into my wdgets for my battery temp and it doesnt list the temperature.......?

Great tip about checking the battery temperature, but when I look into the info on my battery, all I see is the amount of life left, and what's using up the battery; nothing on the temperature. Am I missing something here?

I just checked my market under Verizon apps. There are a few free battery monitors. Is there one either you (or TBHouston above) recommend or use yourself?

I am using Battery Monitor by Digital Scalability, Inc. I found it to be most useful without draining actual battery.

Battery temperture and other phone info can be seeen without an external APP

From your phone menu, tap in *#*#4636#*#* to get a basic phone info including battery status.

My extended battery feels hot, but the sensor in the phone says it is running at 24C / 75F

If you use a hard shell case that clamps on to the extended battery case, then you are bottling up heat and it has nowhere to go.

If working conditions permit it, I suggest using a cloth/canvas case with velcro snap from Nite Ize http://www.niteize.com 800-678-6483

The horizonal holster comes in a large size that comfortably holds the HTC Thunderbolt with extended battery and has room left over for a few business cards.

This case lets air in and the battery can keep cool.
