New here with a very simple question. I come from having a cheap cellphone that held a charge for 10 days or so. When I charged that phone I always shut it down to do so. The Thunderbolt I just bought will need to be charged every day. Should this phone be shutdown whenever it is recharged or should it simply be plugged in still turned on to recharge?

and fyi....there's is a method known as "bump charging" where you charge it while it is on, then, when the light goes green, shut it off. then plug it in and you will notice your light is orance again. it will take about 20 more minutes to go green again and now it is truly fully charged. it's a bit of a hassle and not necessary.....but it does give you a bit more juice and i need ALL the juice i can get!!!!!

Just plug it in. Should be no problem. I use it as a clock next to my bed all night. Charges fine while on.

why not just charge it while it's off?
because i don't like it to ever be off. it's my alarm clock....i have no other phone line...it's my music player, etc, etc.....it's never off except for the 20 minutes per day i have to turn it off to bump charge it.

i've got an alarm clock and am not totally dependent on my phone. if i miss a call or text message it's not the end of the world when the phone's off for 2 hour charge..
just out of curiousity, next time you charge it and turn it back on, turn it off and plug it back in (if you have time). i'm wondering now if it will immediately show green or if it will go orange for another 10 minutes or so?????
i've got a wife, 3 kids, and a business. i'd love to not depend on it so much, but i simply can't turn it off for 2 hours every day.

shows 100%, sasy charged. i wait 'til it toots and says "15% or less", then i turn it off and connect to charger..
when i got it in dec, i was checking it every 15 min, by pushing power button, seeing it move up from 15%.
i know it increments up to 100% in 2 hours.

Thanks for your inquiry. Adding to what was stated, the length of how long you would need to go between charging varies based on use. However, comparing your last phone to your new Thunderbolt, being two different type devices, also plays a role on how long the battery lasts. This is because of the many features offered on the Thunderbolt are robust and able to run applications.
I am providing a link that can a referance for more assistance. http://http://support.vzw.com/simulator/HTC/thunderbolt/simulator.html

New to smartphones. 3 questions: what is airplane mode? How is it different from on/off? Is there a way for the screen to go to sleep, but the phone stays on while charging at night?

MBTyler wrote:New to smartphones. 3 questions: what is airplane mode? When you put it in airplane mode there is no signal at all. no wifi, no 3g, no 4g, no nothing. you can use it as a media player, camera, etc....but there's no connection (i use an app that automatically sets it to airplane mode from midnight to 6 am to conserve the battery). How is it different from on/off? the phone is on, but uses VERY little battery because it does not even attempt to search for a connection of any type. Is there a way for the screen to go to sleep, but the phone stays on while charging at night? the screen should time out after a short period (whatever you have it set to. mine is 15 seconds i think). you can plug it in and charge it and the screen should go dark after 15 or 30 seconds.
fyi....if you have wifi at home then turn it on while your at home as it seems to help the battery life. i also set mine to airplane while i am sleeping because it doesn't drain much battery at all while in airplane mode (i use it as my alarm clock and don't want it to die overnight).
