One of the main reasons for getting this 350 dollar phone is for the front facing camera for skypeing my business partners and girlfriend who lives hours away. Why would you take away the option of a FFC with the Android update? Isn't that the point of a FFC to see the person you are talking to?? Please make an update soon that includes this. My relationship with Verizon and my girlfriend depend on this....

Verizon has aboslutely nothing to do with it, the app is made and released by Skype who is now owned by Microsoft. Not saying you shouldn't complain, just might want to direct it at Skype and Microsoft
The good thing is the FFC works on phones running Gingerbread which HTC said earlier this week would be out this quarter, take that for what it's worth.

This is not true. Skype has released the video calling support in its app. For being able to use multiple cameras, Android OS platform 2.3 is required as documented here http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.3.html . Verizon & HTC are blaming Skype to hide their in-ability to deliver Android OS platform 2.3 which is not fair.

In the reality situation, if the developer hold update until the os is refined for better support user are upset and if they release it before its ready the users are upset, so many want thing when they want is because others got it, this would be a wonderful world if this is how things works..
From what I noticed from reports the hold up seems to be along Android 2.3 supporting the Verizon LTE radio and they are trying to resolve this hiccup.

Great, so now you agree that Verizon released a piece of hardware with advertising features that they could not support and they are still working on it, when I, the consumer paid through the nose to have this device, which is 4 months old already.

that's a video that was made and never aired. the version that aired (for a very brief period of time) did not mention skype at all. just because someone found it and put it on youtube does not mean it was ever an afficial ad.

yeah, it was common knowledge well before release that Skype wouldn't be included on the Thunderbolt.
lol. Tell her to use yahoo or one of the various other versions that developers have made compatible with Froyo. Blame Skype for being lazy and breaking functionality to not make it be backwards compatible.

May be you should click on the link I provided in an earlier comment to check the official OS requirement for multiple cameras. To make it easy for you, here is the link again (http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.3.html). It is easy to laugh on people, it is difficult to stand up for the right thing.

Maybe you should do a little more research. You obviously DO NOT need 2.3 for a working FFC. Heck, there was a working version of Skype floating around that was perfectly functional until MR2. Not to mention, Yahoo and numerous other vendors have created a work around.

Workaround? Why? whats wrong with having official support?

Not everyone has 2.3 and no software vendor should count on an OS update to make their software fully functional. That just causes fragmentation and is poor development practice.

I see, what you are saying, so all the software vendors who are developing for anything above Android 1.5 are **bleep**.

more users are running 2.1 than 2.3 so if a developer wants their app to be usefull, then yes, they would be foolish to NOT have versions that work on 2.1 or even 1.5 for that matter. the fact is, i was using skype (without gb) and it worked just fine so it can be done....by skype...if they wanted to.

1.5 is like the Windows 95 of Mobile OS's. A very small portion runs it, yet the majority of devices with a FFC still have Froyo. In fact, it looks like over half of all android devices are also running 2.2 (http://developer.android.com/resources/dashboard/platform-versions.html), granted most of those probably don't have a FFC. Skype obviously knew how to make it work because of the leak that worked pre-MR2. Who knows what MR2 did to break it or what changes skype made to only make the market version work on 2.3.

Yes, if they do not make the product compatible with the MAJORITY of the handsets still in use.

Hello Community!
I do understand the desire for the front face camera to be operable with the appication Skype. HTC is aware and are working on the compatibility of the ffc to work with Skype. At this time there is no official date to confirm or release a date that this will take place. As information is provided we will update you all as well. Thank you.

Skype has already officially on their web forums that they are the cause of the delays. It has nothing to do with any carrier, or manufacturer. Skype Mobile leak works with 2.2, and so do a lot of other video chat apps. They CHOSE to use the API instead of doing what other developers have done beyond that. Their software Qik works on 2.2 which i find FUNNY.
Everyone is quick to blame carriers since they are easier to get into contact with.
