Gingerbread on the Thunderbolt?

HTC has said in the past that the Thunderbolt will be getting Gingerbread OTA upate by the end of Quarter 2 which would mean were getting it by the end of this month. I'm kinda curious if they are going to combine the fix for this last update(rebooting, signal issues, etc) with the Gingerbread update or if they will be 2 seperate ones. I'm also curious to how the phone is going to perform with Gbread. I'm completely stoked for it, hoping it will help with battery life among other things. What does everyone think will happen? Are they gonna combine the two OTA upates?

It all depends on when verizon wants to release the update though from what I have heard, I find it stupid if they don't allow their customers to upgrade their phones to the newest update without beta testing it first of course and see how it fixes any issues. The problems that I have heard people having when they root their phones to be able to get gingerbread is that they'd either brick it or something else.  Here is a list of features it will have: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/burnette/top-10-features-in-android-23-gingerbread/2143?tag=rbxccnbzd1 I'm not aware of what it will fix but I think it may fix a lot of the issues that people are currently having. The processor won't be overloaded, it will have better task management capabilities and such and more.

That was just a maintenance release and didn't even change the Froyo version.  So no it wasn't Gingerbread. :smileysad:

There is currently a leak out right now.  It's only a matter of time.  Be patient and I am 100% you guys will get the update.  Best to let them do it right vs. having them rush just to make over-zelious people happy.  End result will more than likely be worth it.

Who said anything about motorola?  There's been a GB 2.3.4/sense 2.1 leak floating around for the Thunderbolt for about 3 weeks.  It's a little smoother and not really all that different from Froyo other than the toggles in the notification bar and a different app drawer that has a section for Frequently Used and Downloaded apps.

As pointed out there's a leak out and a lot of roms based on the leak on XDA.  News "cough "rumor" *cough are often late with the news about things unless it gets the clicks for cash.

There is an update supposedly in 10 days just in time the hot spot might not be free anymore. To remove hotspot they need an update. This is from tech support.

Motorola got there's but there not going to help HTC. There's the color of things changed like the Motorola logo changes to red dialer blue phone little faster. More superficial things. Contacts u can go to one letter skipping others. I know because my dad got an X.

Motorola was mentioned because the GB insanity of hype from the Droid X section apparently leaked over here.

Insanity, because it was a nice, decent update. Not anything worth losing sleep over, or creating copious numbers of threads over the weeks and months leading up to it.

And you folks here in the TB forum WILL see thread after thread from now until GB is released to your phone. So get ready.

At least we're not alone. CNN is running a story that bashes VZ for being about 3 releases behind on firmware for their flavor of the iPhone, too.  Looks like VZ cant get updates out for anybody...

That's on Apple.  If people actually used their brains people would know Apple controls everything about the device including updates.  If people looked at some of the fixes for the iPhone they would KNOW some of those bugs DO NOT affect us.  We also have our own unique bugs to deal with.

Manufacturers have to release codes first before Verizon can do anything and that's how open source IS.  If it bothers you that much that you don't get updates when someone else does then you should stick to closed source sandboxes...

there's already a few.....but i doubt it will be ANYTHING like the froyo update (which was actually a substantial update). in every forum (droid, incredible, fascinate, etc).....those threads took over half the page for months. i'm not even sure what changes will be made with GB.....whereas with froy, people were waiting for very specific and major improvements (flash, etc).

so speaking of the iphone, I find this rather amusing.  Looks like fragmentation is another thing they stole along with the pull down notifications. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/breaking/chi-icloud-other-features-not-available-for-verizon-...

Now I wonder exactly who is copying who.

I certainly had a giggle just like Droid-Life.com about what was announced.
