Gmail Error

I set up the email account on this phone with my Gmail, and it'll work fine for a couple days, then stops receiving messages. I usually just delete the account and set it up again, but this time it's throwing this error: "503 80345: The password and username you entered did not authenticate with your email provider. Please try again." I tested the password on my computer, and it's fine, so there's no reason it shouldn't work. Frankly, I shouldn't have to be re-adding the email account every couple of days to begin with. It sounds like I'm not the only one who's having trouble with email on this phone, and I hope Verizon and/or HTC comes up with an acutal fix for this rather than telling me to re-add the account over and over again or downloading an email app in the Market. It's a Google email account on a Google phone, so I shouldn't be having these problems...

I am getting the same error. I deleted the account and went to add it again and get the error again 503 80345 "the password and username you entered did not authenticate with your email provider. Please try again." tried with wireless turned on turned off. Same thing. Logged into my gmail account fine on the computer so I know the username and password are fine. going to call verizon today see what they say. who else is experiencing this problem? I am on the Incredible 2.

I am also having the same problem on my HTC Rezound. Gmail through the HTC Email app worked fine for a few days, then just stopped. I deleted the account and tried to readd it and I'm getting "503 80345: the password and username you entered did not authenticate with your email provider. please try again."

Anyone out there know a fix/workaround? Aside from using the Gmail or another email app?

I was on the phone with Verizon for over an hour regarding the issue. Turned on and off the phone, took out the battery, tried some kind of mail re-set. I have an HTC Rezound. Sometime yesterday my gmail stopped syncing and then I was getting the same 503 80345 error referenced above. Mind you, Yahoo and Hotmail sync just fine. Of course, Verizon was telling me this is the first they have heard of it. I sent an email to HTC and they have yet to respond. Mind you, my gmail is syncing just fine on my ipad and I have an old iphone 4--it works on that just fine. JUST MY VERIZON HTC MAIL APP is screwed up!!! Clearly this is a systemic issue! Verizon's final solution was for me to do a hard reset of my entire phone... And when it doesn't work, what then? Or when it happens again? No. Not doing that! They need to figure out what the problem is and fix it! If anyone gets an answer, please let me know!

Also... I had a hell of a time even being able to post here--every other link worked except for "reply." Makes me wonder how many others wanted to chime in about this problem but were unable to!

I have also emailed HTC about this issue. Hopefully, they will respond to one of us soon. I haven't contacted Verizon since it doesn't seem to be a Verzion issue. Since it's happening on the Rhyme, Incredible2, and the Rezound seems like an HTC problem.

My gmail also works fine on my iPod touch and I never had a problem with it on my Original Droid.

I considered a factory reset but I don't really want to go through the hassle if the issue is going to return anyway. Smiley Sad

Good News!

I decided to try to retrace everything I had done on my phone back to the point that Gmail stopped working on the htc email app. I had downloaded and installed the Amazon App store and checked the box to "allow installation of non-Market applications". I unchecked this box and was able to sign into my Gmail account and check my messages. In order to download and install apps from the Amazon App store I will have to check this box, then remember to uncheck it so Gmail will work. It's not the ideal situation but it's better than nothing. Hope this helps!

I was able to log in now, but the email is not actually syncing... sigh.

Guess I will try and set up a new email client like K9.

Mine didn't sync immediately either even though I hit refresh several times. I finally just put the phone down and checked it about 10 minutes later and my mail had started syncing.

ok... will see how it goes. Right now, calendar, mail, contacts all just

give me a red exclamation mark when I hit "sync now". Thank you very

much for keeping me in the loop on this! I will certainly pass on any new

information if I hear it.

Here is what HTC sent me... obviously they did not read my message which

made clear I had already tried logging in on my PC and it worked just fine.

The cache thing is silly, since that app is NOT the problem--its their

app!. Right now, after removing and reloading the account, like you, my

stock gmail account works, but NOT UI HTC mail app... I got one sync

through of my calendar and contacts--so that is an improvement.

We are sorry to hear that you are having gmail issues with your Rezound.

Generally errors of this nature are server and/or network errors that we do

not have access to directly support and at this time we have not been made

aware of any particular circumstances that may have caused this to happen.

You may wish to try clearing the cache for the gmail app via Settings ->

Applications -> Manage Applications in an effort to rectify this occurance.

You may perform the factory reset of your device if you chose; however,

there is no data to guarantee that this will provide remedy simply due to

the nature of the error code received. You may also wish to check your

gmail account settings on a pc to ensure that there have been no changes

that may affect your access via a mobile device such as the two step

verification, for example.

We apologize for any inconveniences that this may have caused you, Jason.

Well thanks a lot HTC for NOTHING! haha

Okay, I tried something else that seems to be working for now. I set my Gmail up as a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account. I used m.google.com for the server name and left the domain name blank. So far, so good.

Finger's crossed! Smiley Happy

Is it still working? I have everything working BUT calendar entries and

contacts added on my phone will not sync with google on-line... Which is a

big deal... Maybe I should just go back to pad and paper!

My gmail is still working as an exchange account! I finally heard back from HTC and they said to.. set it up as an exchange account. Well, thanks HTC. I'm already several hours ahead of you. I did go into the menu into Accounts & Sync and I disabled everything but mail from syncing via the exchange account because everything else already syncs via the google account. (No need to double sync everything. Only mail has to sync to be checked through the mail app.)

As far as your contacts added to the phone not syncing to your google account, that is a separate issue. When you add a new contact to your phone at the very top it has contact type and it defaults to people. Click on that and select your gmail account, that way your contacts will show up in your google account online.

If you've already added several contacts to the phone that aren't synced to your gmail account you can go into the people app and hit menu>export to SD. Select Phone, then save. Then go back into the people app and hit menu>import from SD. Select your gmail account and all of the contacts will be imported. It should pop up asking you to link the phone contacts to the matching google contacts. After you do that, go into the menu>accounts & sync and sync your gmail account. Then your contacts should show up on your google account online! Smiley Happy

Thank you so very much for the follow up! I have the HTC Rezound, so I

don't know if there are fundamental UI issues that I am dealing with... for

example, I can't find the option to assign contacts in people to a specific

google account, vs phone account, etc... though I can in a biz card app I

purchased! I will try and figure it out.

I will go ahead and try the exchange account for email, contacts and

calendar. This is lame that it is so difficult--this was the reason why I

switched to android, to avoid the interface issues I had with iPhone... now

iPhone has proven easier to deal with and more reliable!!!

Ok... I quit... thank you for your advice on active sync! ... it seems to

have fixed the email and contacts syncing issues... but still, no

appointments I type on the phone get uploaded/synced on line... I am out of

guesses. I swear, I will go back to AT&T if they have a phone without these

issues... yeah, THAT pissed!

I don't think you can change a contact type once it has been entered unless you export it to sd and import from sd to your google account.

I have my calendar syncing to my phone via the google account NOT the exchange account. I haven't had any issues. The appointments I add from my phone are visible on my google calendar online. Sometimes the "tasks" under the exchange account says it cant sync so i just unchecked the box because they're already syncing via the google account.

I agree that the apple UI is more user friendly for an entry level user but I like the customization options with android! Smiley Happy

OK... good to know that you cannot change a contact type on the phone once

saved... I will stop banging my head on that brick wall... Its funny

because my calendar, email and contacts are ONLY syncing from the phone if

I set them up as an exchange account--but I owe it to you that I have that

fix! So you are now my best friend! Thank you again, very much for your

feedback.

And yes... I agree... I do appreciate the customization possible with

Android!

All the best!
