none of the solutions offered here helped--not un-checking the box for installation of non-Market apps, not trying to set up my email as an exchanges account, nothing. Anyone have any other solutions? Did I miss something while scrolling through? Thank you!

I had similar issue, it worked when I added gmail account trough Other (POP3/IMAP)
