Going to ThunderBolt from a Droid X

Had my Droid X for 8 months now. I am changing to a ThunderBolt. Not sure how the Market Place works when it comes to a phone change. When I get the new phone, to get all of my apps from the Market Place will all I have to do is login and got to my apps then download them?

All of the apps that you purchased through the market will be available for you to download on your new device, provided you transfer your google account from the old phone to the new one, which is sounds like you have done /  will do. You will, however, need to search for and download all of the FREE apps you had on your old phone, there will be no indication (in the market) which free apps you had on your old device, so I recommend writing down all of the free apps you had on your old device that you wish to have on the Thunderbolt.

Well that brings another question from your post. When I go to the market and use the menu button I see all of the free and bought apps. Is this because I am using the Droid X till the TB comes in. Then if I understand what you posted you are telling me that if I login in with the new phone using my Gmail address used from the Droid X I can download only the apps I bought? as I can see the free apps is because I still use the Droid X for now.

In the DROID X under settings, privacy there is an option to backup your data and auto restore. If those on checked on for the DROID X, the downloaded applications will install on the Thunderbolt. My "tweaked" Droid Eris had that option and when I logged into the Thunderbolt it restored all the apps that were on the Eris. I wasn't expecting it so it was quite a surprise when I got home after getting the phone.

The free apps you have on your X will still be visible in the market and available for you to download on your new phone. The only difference is that, unlike paid apps you purchased, there will not be anything in the market indicating which free apps have been downloaded using your google account (in this case, on your X).

As I mentioned, the easiest way to keep your free apps is writing down the free apps you have on your X, and then when your new phone arrives, go down the list you recorded and search for them in the market. Once you locate them, simply download them the same way you originally did on your Droid X.

Are you saying that your free apps did not download to the TB when you bought it?  I thought that once the Market went online, all you had to do for a new device was sign in with the same Google account that you used to get all of your previous apps (free or paid) and they would download to your new device.  That was my experience with the XOOM.  All I did was sign in during the initial setup, and the XOOM then went to the Market and downloaded all of my previous apps that were compatible with Honeycomb, both free and paid.

I used to write down the apps when I got new phones or did a factory data reset, but since the Market went online, I haven't had to do that.

I thought it would work that way as well. Not sure now but I will see tomorrow when the TB gets here!
