Why am I not able to use the built in fm tuner in my HTC One on Verizon? I do not want to stream fm, I want to use the tuner.

I am angry about as well. I don't understand Verizon. It's like the last thing they think about is the customer.

...how the heck are those things a substitute for FM radio? I like it because I can listen to football games on my bike.

If we can't get an official response for why this phone is lacking software support for a built-in hardware feature, shouldn't we consider it a defective product? And when can we expect this defect to be addressed via software update?

That doesn't make it a defective device, it just has an unsupported hardware component.  Just like the Nexus 4 and LTE.

Are you saying that the Nexus 4 has an LTE radio that Verizon doesn't support? My understanding is that it doesn't have an LTE radio at all, but that's rather the opposite situation. There is no incompatibility here. Just missing software.

I buy a smartphone with a camera on the back and no camera app because it's "unsupported", shouldn't I feel ripped off?

Moreover, how do you know that this is an "unsupported hardware component" and not a mistake? Can you point me to an official statement from Verizon to back that up? So far they seem to be silent on the issue. Hey, for all I know they're working round-the-clock on a fix.

The specification sheet listed on the HTC web site does not call out any FM tuner for the One.

Got a link for that? If you simply google "HTC One FM Radio" every review and comparison site mentions it.

And then there's this from their HTC One support site.

https://support.htc.com/en-uk/005-HTC_One/0E0/020/010

And AT&T touts "Built-In FM Radio". Also mentioned in too many reviews to count.

I guess the whole world has gone crazy.

I have it on my HTC One through T-Mobile. The radio works great. However it requires you to plug in a headset to use.

When I did this the radio stations were crystal clear and fully available.

My take is that Verizon has once again crippled the HTC One on their service. A real shame that carriers can do this to their customers.

One of these things is not like the others. From the "fun apps" page on the HTC One's support page for all the major carriers.

AT&T

Sprint

T-Mobile

Verizon

At least now I know it's broken on purpose... thanks VZ, that radio probably coulda given me cancer or something.

yep AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile have the FM Radio but alas Verizon does not. Verizon is famous for doing this type of tactic.

that was why I posted the screen shots. Not a single problem or defect with my T-Mobile HTC One.

You mean, Verizon is famous for tailoring their phones to deliver the greatest user experience* in America, and this is just one more example!

Bonus offer: enhance your streaming internet radio experience by giving up your unlimited data!

*To better serve you, local stations may not be available, and/or may be blacked out at the times you really want to listen to them!

Because Verizon isn't currently supporting it.

...you do realize that FM radio is broadcast from towers that have nothing to do with Verizon, right? The feature works in airplane mode.

>Rooting reference deleted< Don't really care at all if Verizon doesn't support me using the features of MY phone that don't affect them one iota. What's next, they'll stop supporting my touchscreen? What a bunch of crap.

Maybe they should support their customers for a change. Still no answer to this thread. I guess even their PR department can't explain this with a straight face, and that's really saying something.

This site has nothing to do with their PR department, its a peer to peer forum for knowledgeable users to help other users with issues using their device.  If you think your device is defective, call CS and get it replaced.
