HTC Rezound having soft key issues

I have had my Rezound since July 2012. It was a replacement, since the first one wouldn't work in Mobile hotspot connection. However, I have

had good service from this phone (with an extended life HCT battery). Now, for about 4 days, the buttons at the bottom of the phone - home, menu,back and search keys will not respond. I have to basically keep punching them to get the screen to change. Also it has been dropping calls and when making a phone call, the screen goes black.  My phone has not been abused in any way, and I have Asurion coverage. I plan to take it in to the Verizon store as soon as my schedule allows. I love the mobile hotspot feature, photos are great, overall I have been pretty happy with my first smartphone. I need it to work properly though. Is it done for?

I want you to enjoy your phone again!  Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to come up with a solution.

Have you recently installed any 3rd party applications, antivirus, data or battery saver applications?  If so, let's uninstall and retest.  Otherwise, let's test the device while it's powered up in Safe Mode  This way we can see if the problem is application related.  If the problems persist in safe mode, then let's try hard resetting the device and starting the device afresh.  Please let me know how this works out for you.  Thanks!
