What is the network mode type under mobile network in the phone settings?

Is this a brand new device?
What connection did you receive with your prior device?
Does this occur where ever you are?

No, this is not a brand new device. It is manufactured refurbished. With my prior device, which was a used Droid Razr Maxx, I received 4G lte with not hesitation and I have been in the same area for the last 3 months. I'm hoping the fact that it is refurbished is not the problem because I have read that others are having the same problem with a brand new device.

I had a TB for over 2 years and I never had a problem with 4G once it came to where I lived. My thought was the fact it may be a refurbished device and you answered that question.
Have you tried a master/factory reset?

Is this a new SIM card or the old one from your previous phone with an adapter?

It is a new SIM card, I got it direct from a Verizon Store.

I half wonder if it wasn't provisioned correctly.
My Tbolt like budone's never had issues with restricting itself to just 1xRTT network. This was with two different SIM cards.
Wonder if it would be worth downloading the LTE Off app from the Play Store and verifying the network mode there.

breezy21, we heard your distress call. I'm here to help. Have you downloaded 3rd party applications to your device? Some application software can affect the performance of it. I recommend that you uninstall any unwanted applications in:
Settings>Manage Applications>tap the Application>tap Uninstall
Once you've uninstalled a few applications, power your device off/on to soft reset it. Keep us posted. We're here to further assist you if needed.
