How Can I Transfer Content If I Can't Use My Phone?

I have owned an HTC One Remix for over 2 years. The screen is almost pulled off the phone. As a result, I was not able to peform any functions on my phone. I was unable to text, make calls, or transfer data. So I ordered a new phone. I received the Samsung Galaxy J3. Since I could not turn off the phone, I had to let it power off completely. As a result, I could not transfer any data to the new phone once the phone was activated. What can I do to retrieve my phone content? HELP!
