Where is ICS for our HTC REZOUND like we were promised by now ?
First of all, HTC did give a roll out date in an official email, not some doctored fake like the Best Buy release and this last Verizon one. HTC said Jun/Jul. Well, tomorrow is August. One of the reasons that I picked the Rezound over the Razor or the even the Samsun Nexus II was the hardware and the fact that ICS was expected before April. It is one of the best pieces of hardware and ICS would only enhance the operation and battery life. While I am happy with the device, I would have either waited or picked up the Nexus II. HTC and Verizon sold the phone with an expected delivery of ICS in the first quarter. Third quarter going on four.
I hate repeating myself, but what the heck. We contract with Verizon, not HTC and not Google. They are the carrier and it is their responsibility and no one elses to address their customers concerns and ensure that the promises made are kept. Even if technical issues outside of Verizon's control exist, there is no reason that they cannot communicate the status to their paying customers. I spend $300 a month for my family's phones and then pile FIOS on top of it. Frankly, if they want to keep their high quarterly earning reports glowing, they need to do a better job of customer relations. I am not talking about the customer is always right. But, the customer is always the customer.
In that email did they give a specific date? If not they got from when they sent it till the end of the world. If they gave a specific date then you would have a case.
Even if they didn't give a specific date in the "email" don't you think that the preceding press release from VZW regarding the rezound is sufficient to not only make the case, but to make it a slam dunk?
"Operating System: Android 2.3™ (Gingerbread) with latest HTC Sense – an upgrade to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) will be available in early 2012"
emphasis added.
An additional slap in the face arrived today, for those who didn't see it, the Evo 3d for the big S was given an update to ICS.
VZW more than owes us an update and/or compensation.
Did they ever define "early" though? It's kind of like "soon".
Yep, I agree. Not only was that advertised, there was a Verizon ICS map- official that is, that had June/July. Add to that the HTC customer support email that stated July...
Who is the email from? Then you would have a case against them. You should read the thread about the HTC Thrill on XDA forums. Same stuff different phone. Read up about the iPhone and MMS. That isn't a hard date and there is a disclaimer subject to change. Their ,ore popular devices will always be updated first
Well, if we just wait until Dec 21, 2012, the Mayans will fix the whole thing for us anyway and we won't need phones.
You know... Depending how you look at it... End of the world as we know it could mean the world doesn't end. Just changes. For example the industrial age changed the world as we knew it to be. When we learned the sun didn't revolve around the earth changed how we perceived our world to be.
Anyway it happens. Personally speaking never buy a device based on an update. Regardless of what carrier. Buy a device for what it has now and if you get an update other than security and bug fixes then it's gravy. It's safe to assume 1 major update within 2 years, but don't expect a second one. Keep in mind most manufacturers make their money from the sale. Apple and Google make residual after the sale of theirs where they have a larger incentive to push out updates.
I think there's a fundamental difference in your thoughts.
I agree not to buy a device on EXPECTED updates. ie I bought a touchpad on the expectation that it would get ICS ported, I was lucky and it happened. Or perhaps a better example, buying a 6mo old or 1yo device that has version X of android and expecting the company to update it to version Y just because it was released within the 18mo timeframe agreed upon by the android update alliance. In such a case the company has made no specific promises/statements regarding the device in question, though may still have some measure of obligation under the alliance (but since I've never seen the stipulations to this, I can't say).
It is quite another matter when the device comes out immediately before a revision, and in this case AFTER the revision had been announced and then being assured through advertising that the device would be updated in a reasonable time frame after release (early 2012). Think OSX or windows8, apple or microsoft says you'll be able to upgrade for free or reduced if you bought a new computer after the announcement of the next revision, perhaps it was also announced that this would be available on day 1, but I don't recall seeing such a thing. So lets say Day 1 rolls around and you try to find out about your update. you're told nothing and no update is made available to you. Lets say this goes on for 3-6 months. After all, in this hypothetical example it was never specifically said you'd get it on day 1 of launch, you'd have absolutely no reason to be upset based on your rationale.
Agree,
I myself think allot of people here are arguing over nothing of any substance. NDA can't and won't be broken simple as that doesn't matter how you or I feel about it, doesn't matter how "fair or unfair" it is. It's a contract signed by both parties simple as that. No need to dance around it.
Back to what matters...
The phone is garbage for doing anything other than placing a phone call with it's bugs. The internet drops out every few seconds on 4G and every few minutes on 3G it's not limited to a single or set of apps it does this with the stock HTC web browser, there are plenty of speculations out there as to what the problem is in my opinion the one that makes the most sense is referring to a driving not loading properly on boot this should be fixed in the illusive ICS update. This isn't limited to a single location or even State, I've traveled on my job between 3 in the past few weeks that all are 4G zones same problems. At this point who cares about the ICS update what Verizon needs to do is issue a recall on all HTC rezound phones and replace the device with something that works I like HTC ...missing my thunderbolt. I'm trying to hold out until the update is finally pushed out and after that if there are still issues with the phone my plan is to demand a replacement device of another model or I'll take my $400 a month and go to another carrier. I have hundreds of co-works in the same building with other 4G devices that work just fine on Verizon, my wife's thunderbolt has no problems, 20+ people here in my office building alone that have the Rezound are all experiencing the exact same problems with it. Google search it most all of the Rezounds are plagued with these bugs.
A Recall of the device is needed in my opinion.
Don't spar here. Do something. Complain to the BBB, State Attorney General, FCC, the press, any and all politicians you can think of.
It will take you less than half an hour to do that and will take Verizon many times that amount to respond. Turn up the heat.
i filed my complaint !!!

Vzw doesn't know what HTC doesn't tell them. And I'd like to add all of u
will be the same unintelligent people complaining that ICS did this or that
to the Rezound to make it work poorly...here's an idea..dnt sign a contract
if u dnt like it. Vzw has phones @ retail cost and u can leave at anytime.
Furthermore..HTC is the company responsible..I have never seen so many
grown adults complain abt something so insignificant..the only TRUE
enhancement that even matters is the global capabilities the phonewill
possess after the update.
I think I have tried to keep this from being personal and I will try to continue to do so. By far, where I live, VZW is the best carrier as far as a system that just works. When I need to make a call it does. Having had to manage nearly 650 phones and over 800 air cards on another carrier in my previous job, I can tell you that while they could not provide the coverage, they were a heck of a lot more responsive when it came time to satisfy the customer. We can all agree of disagree and complain if we like, that is what this forum thread is about. The global capabilities are one of the things that I am looking forward to. Additionally, on every other device that I have that was upgraded to ICS, it ran smoother, faster and cleaner. That includes both an ASUS and Samsung tablet. Frankly if you don't like the complaining and you don't work for Verizon, then unsubscribe to the thread.
honestly speaking I am voicing out for all customers to get the blame in the right direction. Manufacturers know people will blame carriers regardless if they made a shoddy product or take their sweet time even submitting an update. The first update submitted and was leaked was in APRIL. It shouldn't have taken that long to submit an update. The first device that for updated by HTC was late March. If my suppliers did that to me their multi million to billion dollar contract would be in jeopardy(I work for the USM). I have to ensure our troops have the best possible equipment and if I have to worry like you guys I will make sure they know and I will make sure my superiors know. If I am not happy my superiors are not and we look elsewhere. We dropped IBM on a lot of things like when we dropped warp and switch to Linux back in the day as an example. There's a lot more I could tell you but I don't have reason to and it isn't worth life in prison to say. If people actually want this to change they need to pressure manufacturers.
well i 2 have also filed a complaint with the FCC this is messed up and i dont care if they block my account on here its my opinion and im within my rights so thats that htc verizon who the heck ever didnt meet the deadline that htc gave to us so now ive taken steps
Bizzy,
Kinda hard to get you point across to people when you are berating them.
Sorry, but as I said before in the thread I work for one of the three
companies (vzw, htc, Google) and its just ridiculous to hear what customers
say..and its my fault for joining the feed, but ppl always think the gives
a crap abt any of the stuff ppl say they're going to the FCC or bbb or
attorneys general for..

Of course it is. You already made up your mind without taking certain things into account. All cellular phone providers who update their devices will always put the change log into a PDF. The initial paper guide can't be edited like a PDF can. Why carry and change 2 documents when you can bundle them together?
You will be hard pressed with ANY device that didn't sell well. The Amaze, and the Sensation sold better than the Rezound. Just hop onto AT&T forums and read up on the Thrill where you say the same complaints. Some people within that thread did a lawsuit and low and behold they lost. similar situation they went after AT&T and should have gone after HTC. The Samsung Vibrant same deal they got like 9 leaks, and a few lawsuits later they lost to T-Mobile. Sprint forums same deal with the Epic. Samsung Behold 2 and their dealings with 2.0 and all the heat T-Mobile got. Then they got 1.6 instead of 2.1 yet the Cliq(same specs) got 2.1.
Like I said earlier. Manufacturers know you will go after carriers. They have nothing to fear as people will continue to blame carriers and continue to buy their products.
OK first, this is what 5 times you've said HTC thrill, do you even know who makes the thrill?
And just for argument's sake.... How many of those devices had press releases from the CARRIER indicating that the next software release would be coming at all and/or coming in a certain timeframe.
and again it doesn't matter if you want to call it a change log or a thesis. If that makes you feel better about it, do so. It makes ZERO difference with the context of my assertion.
Allow me to connect the dots for you:
1) the document is a real/true document from HTC
2) it shows that they've been working on ICS
I talked with one of the Verizon reps in my area. She said that the Rezound update is next in line after they finish getting it out to the Razr. She said the Razr update has made it to around 60% of the phones. That's all the details I got from her.
Sorry LG Thrill. I opened my drawer :smileyhappy: I own various Android devices at times I do confuse manufacturers.

I thought it was pretty clear that the "when" was stated/promised elsewhere and has been beaten to death.
Verizon at launch of rezound stated/promised "will be" available "early 2012". bzzt didn't happen
HTC stated/promised June/July. bzzt didn't happen (though they didn't give a year iirc, so maybe we can call that one half true.
and that doc was in response to someone else's assertion that the june 20th doc, whatever doc that he was referring to, was a fabrication.
Again, it is Verizon's responsibility to keep the customer informed and be responsive. The response may not be what the customer wants to hear. But they must remain responsive to every customer if they wish to retain them. The customer is not always right or reasonable. They are always the customer. I worked in government providing public safety services for 33 years. I will tell you that not everyone liked the answers we gave but in order for the agency to retain trust and support we had to be honest and transparent. If not, we would quickly become ineffective and we would lose funding and benefits. Any business that fails to recognize this will not continue to prosper.
There's a LARGE difference between what you do and what Verizon does. I would agree with you if Verizon made the device. HTC makes the device, and they are the ones who make the update. Regardless if Verizon approves the update or not.
If you look at the Cliq it is a PRIME example of the update process. Motorola was at the time the most transparent about updates. They got burned by their customers as most of them couldn't fathom what was going on. T-Mobile was caught in the middle and they had the most relaxed update process than any other carrier. It was so terrible... I completely understand why carriers would rather keep their mouths shut.
See, I disagree. We both provide a service. If we do not have customer support, we cannot continue to do business. The vast majority of our customers are very happy. But it just takes a vocal few to degrade that support and our reputation. Verizon is no different. They provide a service. I am not saying that they should hand out new phones to unsatisfied Rezound owners. I am not saying that they are to blame for ICS not being ready. And frankly, I don't need to deal with HTC. I contract my hard earned money to Verizon. They represent me as the consumer. What I am saying is any company, be it the gas station around the corner, a restaurant, government or the phone providers need to be as transparent as possible and communicate with their customer base. I have always told my staff or the community that they can ask a question. I won't punt it and guess but will answer I don't know but I will find out. That is all most of us are asking here.
Very true Verizon does NOT make the update, they just test it. I can confirm this with the email HTC sent me a few seconds ago.
Dear,
I see that you have a HTC device and you're looking for information about the ICS update for your device.
I'll be happy to assist you by providing you some information about this as I understand the importance of knowing information about your phone!
HTC does not announce dates for release of software due to the nature of the software development process. At any point in the software development cycle a situation may be encountered that requires anything from some minor additional rework, to complete rewrites of the software base. Only after the final acceptance testing has been successfully completed will HTC release software. The normal time period between the final acceptance testing and release of software is about a week and often shorter than that.
Did Verizon make the device? No, HTC did. Do Xbox 360 owners complain to gamestop for their RROD? No they send it into walmart. When it comes to the devices Verizon is no more than a 3rd party retailer. Like you said yourself "What I am saying is any company, be it the gas station around the corner, a restaurant, government or the phone providers need to be as transparent as possible and communicate with their customer base" When you bought that phone you are a HTC customer. You purchased a device that was manufactured and produced by HTC. HTC could be more transparent like Motorola was in the past, but chooses not to. Much like when you buy a car and the bank helps you pay for it they are no more responsible to ensure that car works for you.
As I said I would agree with you ONLY if Verizon made the device and sold the device themselves which they didn't do. Before you say I am a shill for Verizon or work for them... I said the same thing on AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile boards... This misplaced blame is what causes this problem in the first place.
I found this on Verizon's website. If you scroll down to Additional Features this is what it says, "Operating System: Android 2.3™ (Gingerbread) with latest HTC Sense – an upgrade to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) will be available in early 2012". Is August still considered early 2012?

Hello,
Take a look at the web address.
It shows that this has been out since 11/03/2011.
ironically you know those "leaks"? Those were controlled leaks by HTC for testing purposes... Too bad people don't read their boards.
Hi @XXXXXX, it's great to hear you're enjoying ICS. I recommend letting our Development Team know what you think about the changes made in the ICS software; we really appreciate customer feedback. You can get in touch with them at http://www.htcdev.com/contactus.
Also based on their website they expect all devices they listed would get the update by August. At this rate they will miss that deadline with a lot of devices.

I don't think you understand the point. Verizon made a material promise. They sold the phone. They're responsible for the fulfillment of that promise.
If you go to a car dealership, and the salesman tells you a car will do 100mph, and then you buy it and it stops accelerating at 35, the dealership does not then get to say "well we were just parroting what Chevy said, and have absolutely no responsibility for the claims we made."
Verizon made the promise, and did not qualify it with "HTC claims Android 4 will be available." They said it WILL be available, and people bought the phone based on that promise - because who is going to buy a high-end phone if they're told up front that it will kicked to the curb as far as updates?
From reports from people who have installed the ICS leaks, it appears that Rezounds with ICS handle 4g network drops more gracefully - unlike many of ours, which lose all data connectivity at random and increasingly frequent and lengthy intervals. So this is not just people angrily stamping their feet because they don't have a new shiny - this is people angrily stamping their feet because we are paying full price for reliable 4g data every month, and aren't getting what we pay for - which it seems we could be getting if what Verizon promised had been delivered.
I have shown multiple examples to show how that is flawed. In the past 3 years that argument has lost every single time. The main reason is Carriers don't manufacture the devices. Argue and complain all you want nothing changes that fact.

Have any of you seen this? It was posted earlier today an is asking users about the Rezound's ICS delay. I took it. Check it out.

Can we please get back on topic and stop complaining about stupid crap? This is about the Update to ICS not bloatware on the RAZR or any other crap. I want to know about ICS and ICS only for the Rezound not stupid off topic BS under some made up bloatware tab.
That isn't a bad ideal but the reality is that nothing or no one can change when the update will be released, but on the same note you need to understand bloatware and other applications that are added to the roms usually cause the delays on the update getting released because the OS has to tested with all applications installed on the device to verify it for any incompatibility issues.
You are upset about the update not being released but I am sure you would be twice as upset if you got the update and the device becomes useless, this has happened to a number of devices before..
Basically the problem you have is that you bought a device for what you was told it would get instead of getting something you wanted and was happy with. this is one of the biggest mistakes when it comes to buying a product.
No disrespect but when all is said and done you will simply have to wait for the update to be released like all other users..
Kind of like we did with Gingerbread for the X and ICS for the Razr's who was that a Long W.M. many sleepless nights..

I completely agree. And I see nothing on that mentioned in Verizon's description of the OTA. Maybe it is there, or maybe not. But it is not ouvertly mentioned, which is odd for what I also think a major feature being promised and sought.
A really odd thing I note right now as well, is that I just went to the verizonwireless.com site to look at the Rezound, wondering if anything new was mentioned. The HTC Trophy was the only HTC phone that showed up however. Odd.
you must have had the "windows phones" selected under the OS filter. all smartphones are still showing up, but if you select to filter by OS and choose windows, then the trophy is the only one that will show.
I got mine! Finally...
BTW, mine was a pull as well, located in Denver, CO!
Pulled mine today at work. couldnt mess with it cause i was at work looking around at it but looks great so far. It didnt notify me i had to have it search for the update
so dont wait for the phone to tell you about update search for update
I do have to say that HTC still does owe us a Jelly Bean for the wait then you will be forgiven but i am in immediate rush i dont mind savoring this update
but for those who have not received it is like going from picture tube tv to 1080p on lcd
Hey Guys.
So i got the 7mb update OTA and then rebooted and then had to download the 313 mb update.
After the reboot my phone goes to look for the file on a reboot and throws and error 7.

Are you "modified" other than just unlocking? Deleted any apps? May need to go completely back to stock or find an alternative method for the update. Can't really talk about any of that here but android central or xda should be able to get you going.
No mods at all. Just unlocked bootloader from HTC site. Thats it.
This is true, if you managed to uninstall any included apps, the OTA will fail. Part of the installation process checks for them and will not allow it to continue if they are not present.

I think you missed the point where he's unlocked using htcdev. Based on the post at androidpolice.com, you can't even install the ruu for the ota unless your s-off or locked so the OTA may be the same way. Feel free to try the factory reset but I'd check on the other forums to be 100% sure.
You do know unlocking bootloader is still a unofficial modification. Verizon and also Android does not support a device that has been modified like this, HTC reports this in their disclosure on the software and site.
You have to relock bootloader before you can do update..
It has arrived already!!! What do you think about it??
Interesting. My comment was removed...and I wasn't notified by a moderator. I wonder what happened. Oh well. What I said was:
I also want to say that finally pushing out the update doesn't clear Verizon & HTC of any accountability regarding such an extended delay with no communication. The day before the update rolled out I filed a complaint with the attorney general's consumer fraud department. It was unprofessional, unethical, and has convinced me that the only option is to switch carriers and only use Nexus devices. I'm counting the days till my contract with Verizon ends.
And one more thing -
Jellybean is not beyond their reach. But Verizon & HTC will never consider upgrading the Rezound past ICS. Deal with it, people.
>Post edited to comply with VZW ToS. Discussions concerning rooting, or software that is not the official release is not permitted on this site<
Don't be surprised if this one doesn't get removed also because you are discussing unofficial software that isn't allowed on this forum because the method to use things like this requires the user to void their warranty and also break TOS (Terms of Service) policies.
I'm not endorsing it - I'm just saying it's out there. I don't endorse eating deep fried bacon either but people do it, and it's a terrible idea.
I understand this but Verizon frowns on users discussing this subject on their forum... Most average users do not know about subjects like this and they dont understand the consequences.
It just is wise not to open a door unless you know what you are walking into because when they investigate your suggestion and run into issues they think that they can come to the place that they receive the information to find a solution and this isn't allowed here either..
Not trying to tell you what to do but clarifying why you had your post probably removed.
You should know that if a user reports a post as abusive, the post in question is removed from general viewing until the moderator finishing their review of the post. I have seen it take a few minutes and up to a few days before a decision is made and the post is returned to the community.
This is just my observations of this community since it switched to the Jive platform in January this year.
I'm really not impressed. My rezound seems slow as hell now and certain apps barely function.
There is a number of apps on market that isn't ICS compatible so the issues with apps isn't surprising..
You basically just upgraded from windows 98 to windows7 and I hate to say it but incompatible apps comes with the upgrade.
Time to test your apps and determine what needs updating and contact the developer for that app. Also flash no longer is supported on new OS so no more flash apps or web pages..
Just heads up...
Its a very large update. My phone took a day of heavy battery and some quirkiness than settled down well. There is an app optimizer that will update your compatible apps to ICS. I hope that the update ends up serving you well.
I actually have the S3 not a Rezound but the update to that device couldn't be better... :smileyhappy:

At least yours will come up..When I go to settings to turn on bluetooth to be able to pair with my truck and my regular bluetooth it will not even turn on to let me pair or do anything with it...Keeps saying bluetooth turning on..nothing else happens..
Mine is doing the same thing. It will connect to the car 2 times then doesnt connect anymore. Also when i get in the car and say "bluetooth audio" she says, "no media device connected". i hope they fix this soon.
I have had no issues with BT connecting and did not have to delete or re-pair any bluetooth devices including a HR monitor for exercise, truck and ear piece.
I've been having the same issue. After doing a master reset it still continued (along with Google Maps crashing). I called support about something completely unrelated and mentioned it in passing. The Google Maps issue is a known issue and right now the fix is to uninstall the updates. As for the Bluetooth issue, I talked to tech support for about 10 minutes trying to fix the issue and it still didn't work. I mentioned that this issue was all over the forums, but apparently no one had officially reported it tech support. They are sending me a new phone (they claim it will be with the ICS update and tested thoroughly before being sent out). In the mean time, in order to get it fixed, I suggest calling Tech Support or going into the store to let them know so that the issue gets more attention and resolved. Let's hope that the new phone works, but I'm not holding my breath.
Had no problems yet. ICS update came within 10 min of turning on the phone. Updated it and phone works great. Best phone I have owned and I have owned alot of phones....:smileyhappy:
Have you tried the battery pull. I did have an issue one day and that fixed
it. I did just start having sense restarts a few times now but it appears
to ne dock related.
