I'm traveling to Taiwan in a few months, and I was wondering if it is possible to buy a SIM card in Taiwan and replace the Thunderbolt's SIM with a prepaid one.
In some parts of Taiwan you can use your phone as some areas are CDMA, but changing the SIM will not get you GSM service in the other areas.
So you're saying I still need to pay roaming charges because I can't use a SIM card?
Correct. Unless someone says I am wrong, my understanding is the SIM is for CDMA data only. The phone itself is still 3G CDMA only.

Or worse, in areas without CDMA coverage, you won't be able to use the phone. This is NOT a GSM-capable phone for normal quad-band GSM.
Last question: in Taiwan, are only major metropolitan areas CDMA supported, or does it extend within some range of a cell tower?
