I know three people that have the Thunderbolt on Verizon and all three of us are having the same problem following the the update to 2.11.605.19710RD. Mine occured on 5/17/2012 at 12:31pm. The update was forced, I noticed my phone automatically rebooted and when it came up it gave me a message stating it had been updated.
Following the update, the phone will intermittently get very warm and drain the batter very quickly. I am running an extended life battery (purchased through verizon store) and the other two people I know having the issue are running standard batteries. If i notice the phone is running warm, I can restart the phone and the condition temporarily goes away until it returns again.
I can see no rhyme or reason for when it returns. I am a standard user so I do not hack the phone or do anything other than load aps (cautiously) from Market. My phone would get easily two days on a charge. (I turn off mobile data when not using it)
Curious to see if anyone else is having this problem and if anyone from verizon can help me.
Thanks

I have the same issue. Some app is downloading a large amount of data though the 'Dialer' app.
See: Menu / Settings / About Phone / Battery / Battery Use
Touch Dialer and for me, this morning only, it has sent 1/2 Mb and received 3 Mb of data.
Questions for Verizon: What app(s) are using this approach? Why, I am assuming because this method of data download is not interruptable by a user? How do we turn this off to get our battery life back?
This needs to be looked into by Verizon!!
