I was trying to use the my verizon app on my Thunderbolt to check my usage and it says it wants me to preform a firmware upgrade. I go and do that and it will download it to the phone and when it's done it will turn off. It will come back on and start updating until a triangle with a ! in the middle of it with the android guy below it comes on the screen. I have to clear the cache and reboot the phone or it will shut off everytime if I don't. I don't know what is going on. Has anyone on here have this happen to them before and is there a way to fix it. Please help. Thanks.

A number of users reported diffrent issues with updating to the latest update, some suggest to disable 4G connection that worked for me and sometimes it ended up being a app installed blocking the upgrade..
Since your device ask for you to clear cache, have you tried that option?

Well I clear the cache to be able to reboot the phone or it will keep shutting off. I will try what you did and see if it works.

Will this fix my verizon. Cause it won't work. It now wants me to enter test information. My phone keeps making a notification noise when there isn't any notifications.

heck, they left the one up for what was supposed to have been the original MR2 update but didn't solve the problem and was never pushed out so I'm sure there are some still stuck on that update. Granted it's better for them to leave the new "official" one up since it probably helps them out as it wipes everything and cuts out a lot of potential problems.

I can't say if the app will work or not, because I have no reason to use the MyVerizon application. It is more bloatware that I would prefer not to have on my phone.

I will try that. Do you know how to make my notification sound go away. It will keep doing it and won't stop. Sometimes it will do it a few times at the same time. There is no notifications and it will still do it. Like if I unlock the phone after waiting a minute it will do it.

I can't even do that. I download it to the computer and it won't open. I have even wiped everything and still have problems with my verizon and the noises. It now turns off for no reason every hour now.

you don't open it on your computer. You download the file, put it on your sdcard (make sure it's renamed PG05IMG.zip), power off, hold volume down+power to get into hboot and follow the on screen instructions.

The thing is a user without knowledge to using it can lead to some issues that Verizon wont help to correct because it isn't a official update pushed from them...

And you think the phone reps are smart enough to know which you did? I bet their OTAs cause more problems than manually flashing. I do agree though that getting in a hurry and not reading instructions can get you in trouble but there isn't much you can mess up with the manual flash. If you want to be 100% safe, download Astro File Manager from the market. Open the app and navigated to the .zip file, long press and hit details, wait a little while until the md5 pops up and verify that it matches "MD5: 0e939335d3039a3723c095b33f8cc301". This makes sure you don't have a corrupt/partial download. Also verify that it the file name isn't .zip.zip (easy to do if you're using a windows pc).

I'm at the bootloader. Do I stay there and the phone will reboot.

It should start searching files and then ask you to press volume up to flash. When it's done, it'll ask to hit power to reboot. Sometimes you need to choose Fastboot in the menu. If it does nothing, you likely don't have the file named correctly or it isn't on the root (top most, not in a folder) of your sdcard.
