NFL app will not work

Why is the NFL now not working on Thunderbolts running asop roms such as CM7?

It gives an error "NFL content can only be viewed by active Verizon users"

Verizon certainly knows I am a active user as they bill me for my calls/texts/data.

To throw a wrench into this the NFL app works just fine with a Dinc or DX running CM7.

Of course its not the stock rom, IT'S A MILLION TIMES BETTER, FASTER, MORE STABLE...ETC

If the app works on other Verizon phones running CM7 then it should work on the Tbolt as well, there was nothing added to the other phones to make it work. It was running on a CM7 Tbolt until this last update, so...

Simply Verizon is blocking access, we can't even get a working My Verizon app to work with even a stock Tbolt.

verizon has every right to block access, just as you have the right to flash it

they do not garuntee any of thier software on any non stock rom

please contact the rom developer

Sure they could, but why would they? They are excluding ONLY Tbolt owners running CM7 not ANY other Verizon phone running CM7. Unlike last year it looks like Verizon will be charging $10/month for the video access portion, while I disagree with this I will almost 100% pay the fee as I don't have time to watch many complete games anymore.

PS: you own a Fascinate, why are you in the Thunderbolt section defending Verizon?

Why are you on here complaining about something you can not get with a rooted phone??? Those discussions are against the TOS.

Why aren't you answering my question?

Simply why is Verizon blocking access?

This has nothing to do with rooted phones as it works on all of them except asop rom's after the last app update.

As far as TOS then they can ban me, I bought my phone so I will use it the way I want. Remember the courts decided that Apple can not block people from services after jailbreaking their phones. I'm sure the courts would be looking strongly at this decision for a basis for a judgement against Verizon if they keep this up.

As far as TOS then they can ban me, I bought my phone so I will use it the way I want. Very true, but their network, sandbox, bucket and shovel, they can dictate what OF THEIRS you can access with a  rooted phone.

I suspect there are major differences between Dinc and TB Rom due to 4G radio. Remember the courts decided that Apple can not block people from services after jailbreaking their phones. I'm sure the courts would be looking strongly at this decision for a basis for a judgement against Verizon if they keep this up.Courts will not give a flip unless YOU want to put the money out to persue it.

And for all the grief I gave you, I will answer your question with, "Google is your Friend".

yur reading what you want

i did answer

the devs took something out of the stock rom that causes the nfl app to not wrok

you didnt jailbreak, you repalced the rom.  it does not have all the same things that the stock rom does

you can put a stock on there and root and the nfl will most likely work

oh please sue, everyone threatens no one does.

Pretty sure that judgement was to make jailbreaking/rooting legal and prevent apple and other manufacturers and carriers from prosecuting those who circumvent their policies.  It doesn't, however, mean that Verizon must support those who do so or make sure the apps work on custom roms.  This is the specific reason that Verizon and the manufacturers advise against it because of those who come complaining to them because they "modified" their device and something doesn't work right.

im in all the sections providing information to users

the cm7 on the tbolt is a completety diff cm7 than on the Dinc

the rom of each phone is diff from the romof any other phone

its very possible that the cm7 devs removed something that the app needs to run

again i say go talk to the cm7 devs

I created an account here specifically to chime in on this thread.

First of all, I think all parties here have some valid points.

1) As FSRBIKER claims, the NFL app should function for us (those of us who develop or test the development of others on our phones) without VZW's interference.

2) As mdram4x4 claims, if we have problematic software, it's not Verizon's fault.

3) As budone claims, regardless of the legality of such interference (if it were happening), the courts aren't going to do anything about it unless somebody takes it to court.

I want to elaborate on all three of these points:

1) As soon as VZW purchased LTE spectrum and we purchased phones that work over that spectrum, they REALLY tied their hands as to what services they can dictate how we access. There were MANY clauses in that purchase that prevent them from blocking their services to LTE customers for almost any reason (except security). So if VZW truly is interfering here, regardless of how debatable it was before (which it was still quite debatable), it is now much more past that gray line. So FSRBIKER is very accurate in saying that VZW should NOT be interfering with this app on a Thunderbolt (at least for people who access said services over LTE). On this point, specifically, budone is wrong by saying that VZW can legally block whatever they want. As a telco company (specifically one who made very specific agreements to the government of the United States), they are bound to agreements that state they cannot block whatever they want.

2) mdram4x4 is very correct in that our CM7 may be borked and that may really be the problem here. I sympathize with FSRBIKER but I don't believe we have completely eliminated the fact that our AOSP-based software may have something wrong in it. So this is still a very real possibility that we need to investigate.

3) budone is very true about the court situation but given the LTE spectrum situation and blocking of tethering (that was VERY SPECIFICALLY mentioned in the LTE spectrum agreement that VZW agreed to allow their customers when they purchased the spectrum), well, this conversation of VZW blocking services may end up in court sooner than some might think.

These are my thoughts. FSRBIKER, we should  investigate the possibility that our CM7 and other AOSP-based ROMs aren't missing some DRM or something. Once we have this proof and are able to prove that VZW is blocking our access, then this is a topic that should be hit with much anger. In the mean time, asking VZW if they block it might be the better aproach rather than to accuse them of such with no proof. mdram4x4, do you think this is the proper approach or do you disagree?

i just did a google search, man google is nice

and it appears it can be fixed, its not a vzw issue

its a login/credential thing

so head over to the cm7/xda/androidforums/google and you should be able to run it

now does that answer your question?

If this is about the Verizon sign on engine apk(VSSO) then no this does not work for asop roms on the Tbolt. That is unless a newer version has been released but I haven't seen one. It will install but that's it, not sure if you were to log in but nothing happens and no way to open it after installation.

So yes please post the link then I can mark this thread as solution found.

Thanks

that is exactly what it is about and xda has the apk. and you can open the app...with full access to video.

Are you running an asop rom on your Tbolt and can confirm the apk works and the NFL app opens?

Again I'll ask if you can post a link to the thread with the apk solution I can mark this thread solved once I test it.

Thanks in advance
