Not getting text messages or voicemails

I have recently had difficulty receiving text messages & voicemails. Today, I got a voicemail from A WEEK AGO from a potential employer. In order to read most text messages, I have to go into my message inbox to read them, rather than getting a notification signal/tone/light/whatever, letting me know there's an unread message.

I have also had a problem with not hearing my phone when it rings. I have the volume all the way up & have tried NUMEROUS ringtones, but with no luck. This really sucks when you're trying to find a job before August

I hope this makes sense, but it's getting very frustrating.

I know the importance of getting those messages as quickly as possible. Are these voicemails not appearing in the inbox until a week later or are you not receiving the notifications until a week later? I am curious about the same for the text messages. This all seems related to notification errors, as though everything is being delivered properly, but you just are not being notified immediately. There are a few things to try, and first I suggest enabling safe mode (http://bit.ly/yAHjEJ) to determine if this is application related by disabling third party apps. Have someone call and leave a voicemail, as well as a text message to see if the alerts come in immediately. If they do, then it is application related. As a last resort, a hard reset (http://bit.ly/xCo3Hk) may be necessary. Just ensure your contacts and the calendar items are backed up to Gmail/Google (google.com/contacts).
