The past 2 weeksmy phone keeps going into 1x service all the time. Can anyone help me fix this or tell me why it's doing it?
My screen broke not long after I got the phone, so I know if I call customer service they will just send a replacement. I don't want a replacement because I don't want to pay the 100 for a replacement b/c the screen is broke.

Hi Kyla well i can't tell you what to do but if you were relative of mine i would strongly suggest on getting a replacement because the screen is glass on your T-bolt an will cut you if run your finger just right over it. So it's your call on that But as for it going to 1X they might be working on the Towers in your area.
Update:
Iooked on Verizons maps an it shows a good area of coverage for LTE so you should be ok there. so as i said you might need to return your phone for a New one especially since the screen is cracked
Here's a Link Kyla to your Area an you can see were LTE is by clicking were it says 4G an then hit enter an it will show you the Map.

I said something to my husband and he said he has been having the same problem. Both were all of a sudden, so now I don't think it's my phone.
And there is no LTE where I live.
Called into Verizon, they said nothing is going on in my area. Could they be working on towers and CS not know?

could possibly be the towers or network related. To rule out a network issue, dial ##778# and hit call. Choose edit mode, enter 000000 as the code. Go to Modem Settings-Rev A and change the option to Enable. Hit OK, then hit the menu button and commit modifications. Your phone will then reboot. If you get 3G, something is up with Verizon's eHRPD network in your area. If it doesn't work, then you may have a tower or phone related issue. Either way a call to CS is probably your next step. To undo, the above process, repeat the same steps but change Rev-A to eHRPD, commit modifications and reboot.

I live right outside of it kinda on the line of Mooresville and the next tiny town over.. So half the time my phone is junk Even 3G sucks where I live. However 3G on my husbands Droid X rocks! So I'm thinking it's just the TB

So your husband was also having issues? I'm guessing that's a tower issue if he's having problems with a droid X which is only 3G. Since you're on the edge, you may also want to change your phone to cdma only mode. There are two methods, Settings-Wireless & Networks- Mobile Networks and change Network Mode to CDMA only or you can use LTE On Off from the market

I understand Kyla Were if live were 15 miles from what Verizon calls there Extented LTE coverage area an its the berries not to be able to enjoy it yet unless i go toward that area. Now as for my Droid X an my Dinc. they both get good service from our towers an the 3G.

Happens all the time, not just to you, but to almost every TB user based on what I've read online. If I go into an elevator, I'll lose 4G, it will switch to 1X, and then only one or more of the following will restore 4G:
(1) toggle mobile data on/off
(2) toggle to 3G then back to 4G using LTEOn/Off
(3) turn radio off, then back on using LTEOn/Off
(4) reboot
Usually one of the above will work.
In reality, it's quite ridiculous to expect people to do this. VZW has sold us all a clearly defective product (phone+network).
Other, more radical solutions include:
(1) battery pull + SIM card pull
(2) SIM card replacement
(3) new phone
(4) change carriers

Good day Kyla1234
Are you still having problems with the data services on your Thunderbolt? Is it only showing the 1X at home or when you are also away from home?
Have you upgraded your Thunderbolt with the newest software (Gingerbread)?
Thunderbolt Gingerbread Update
This software enhancement is also designed to help with the data connectivity. We do recommend a hard/factory reset once the software update has been completed. Make sure you back your information up prior to the hard/factory reset.
I have also checked the map coverage and I do see your city as being in a 4G/LTE area. Without me having an exact address I'm wondering if you may be in what is considered a fringe area (one that borders on 3G & 4G). Even if that is the case, the software update should resolve that.
Please follow up with us, let us know if you continue to have connectivity issues in Mooresville, NC.

Yes I am running Gingerbread.
I live in Mout Ulla, right outside of Mooresville. Where I live is now classified as marginal service, wasn't last year though! Verizon is now junk, I am one of the ones who truly misses Alltel! We started loosing service in Jan/Feb of this year. Most of the time now I stay in 1x. BUT b/c it's still a smart phone I have to have the data package, even though most of the time I'm unable to use it! But my hubbys Droid X2 has great 3G service.. It really ticks me off!
I was talked into this phone to help with my problems. Guess what? I was lied to, b/c it's only caused more and extended my contract! And had to come here on your Verizon boards to find out the network extender that was bought, through suggestion of a tech support rep doesn't work on my phone b/c it's a 4G phone.
And yes I turned off 4G to my phone, and that still doesn't work with the network extender.. But again, my hubby's phone does..
I swear Verizon needs to own up and say this phone is junk and help their customers out! I would leave, but haha the joke is on me. No one else has service where I live!
Thanks all!

Ok, I have to ask this question because I read this post and no one else has asked.
You said you been having issues with your phone for a while and in your original post, you said that your screen is broken (almost since you've had the phone, I believe) and you don't want to get a replacement.
Is it possible that whatever caused your screen to break may be causing some of your other issues? If there was some impact that was strong enough to break the glass, maybe some of your internal components may be damaged as well?
