Im having a problem with my ringtones for my contacts. Like a seperate ringtone for like a ringtone for my mother. I have set it to something I want when she calls but everytime she calls it plays my default ringtone I have set for the rest of my contacts. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix this issue?

Ok good atleast someone else has experienced this problem... It played my default ringtone yesterday on someone I had set up and I went back in to contacts to see if it saved and right there it had the song I wanted for them but yet played the default ringtone so I reclicked it and redone it and then they called back like 4 times yesterday and it played their song 3 times then on the 4th it went back to default ringtone. So im alittle baffled on how to fix this issue. Anyone have any ideas?

You are not the only one having this problem. I was on the phone for 2 hours working on it with android support. It is caused by the preloaded text messaging program. Every time someone texts in for some reason the next call that comes through is always the default ringtone, even if you have a special ringtone assigned to that contact.

Unfortunately, you are not allowed to uninstall this texting program. The support person suggested that I upload handcent for my texting. I did do this, but can't figure out how to make this my default texting program. For now my texts come through both handcent and the preloaded text program simultaneously.  So, for now, I am still having the same problem with no way to check if handcent (or a third party app) will be a fix.

Actually, if someone could let me know how to make handcent my default text app, I would really appreciate it.

I'm about the same place for returning the phone. Love so many of its features, but I use txting heavily and I NEED the separate ring tones as I can't be checking to see who's calling while I am driving.

So.....anyone know how to make a third party app into your default app for txting?

There is not a way to set default, but you can disable notification which will esentually do what you want.  Open the All Apps window.  Click on Messages.  Click the Menu button.  Click Settings.  Uncheck  Recieved notification box.

I'm not having that problem at all.    If I sent a different ringtone in their contact, that is the one that plays when the person calls.

Let me be clear, you can set the default app that is opened when you click on widget. That is pretty self explanatory since it asks you each time. Any messaging program installed runs all the time and monitors the message service in the android OS. I don't believe this is the cause of the ringtone problem. I expect that the HTC Sense is causing the issue.

Having this problem with both of my Thunderbolts as well. Using Handcent as default text service did nothing.

If I get what you're saying;  the Market has two apps that might meet your needs.  Ringdroid and for txtg try custom sms tones lite.  no promises of course.

Dave, you don't get what we are saying.

We can assign specific ringers to specific contacts (custom or not). And usually the correct ring for each contact rings. However, anytime a text message is recieved, the very next incoming phone call will ring as the default phone ringer for all contacts.

I had the same problem on the Thunderbolt.  This is what I found out and also came up with a fix.

1. If your contacts were synced from Google (google contacts) you cannot assign ringtones to contacts.  Thisis a Google thing.

2. If your contacts were synced from Microsoft Outlook AND Google:  If google contacts were updated to the phone 1st, then you cannot assign custom ringtones to the google contacts.  Even if the same contact exists in Outlook.

What I ended up doing was two part through trial and error.

I deleted all of the contacts from my Thunderbolt and set the option to not sync with google.

I then used HTC Sync (another nightmare) to get my Outlook contacts to the phone.

I was then able to assign my custom ringtones to my contacts.

The other solution that I tried before the one mentioned above was to use Ringdroid (free app in the Market and Amazon).  Bring up your custom ringtone in Ringdroid, Save it.  It will prompt to assign it  todefault or contact person.

Using this option worked, but I did not want to do it for each one of my custom ringtones which is why I used the first option.

Hope this helps.

Oh to add to this.. It now seems like it wants to play the ringtone I chose whenever it wants to now lol. Hey did you delete everyone from google even if you didnt choose a ringtone for them? I have kept some from google, so maybe ill have to delete everyone and restart. Also I have some synced up to facebook would that also cause this problem with the ringtone?

Yes,  My primary contacts are in Outlook, so I deleted everyone from Google.

I also deleted them from the phone and started from scratch.  Syncing them from Microsoft Outlook to the Thunderbolt.

What program are you using to sync to the phone?

Did you try assigning ringtones using the app RINGDROID?  That solution may work for you (see my previous post).

If that doesn't work, you may want to consider doing a Factory data reset.  I know it's a pain because you will be returning the phone to the state it was when you bought it.
