I received an UPDATE for Google MAPS on 8/16/12. Since the update, everytime I use the application, my phone power resets after about 30 seconds into it. ANNOYING so I just removed the most recent update. ANY fix on this problem?
go into settings--> apps---> maps and clear data/cache and then restart your phone. then try again if that fails try uninstalling the update in the same setting options shown above and reinstall it.
I just tried what you said, and it still keeps resseting. I guess i'll just keep the previous version until a fix is made. Thanks anyways.
I think there may be a new update possibly. You are not the only one having problems with the update. My son phone it won't open and restarts his phone. That trick worked for him.
Sounds like you've done the best solution, something with the new Maps update may just not jive with your phone. I would also suggest emailing the dev (email address should be on their Play Store page) and let them know of the issue.
I have the same issue with my Rezound, and so does my wife. I've uninstalled the update, and how they fix it soon. I like the idea of offline maps.
Yes not a bad idea...on the comments inside the Play Store page, there is TONS of people with this issue, I'm sure HTC and Google are probably aware of this by now. (Hoping that they actually read the comments posted) Either way I will send them my feedback.
I've had the same issue with the new Google map update and had to uninstall it. Hopefully Google will fix the problem
I also saw a report of this on another forum, so it does sound like it's common.
Ditto. Same issue here on my Rezound.
Same issue here. Started yesterday. Cleared cache and just restarted again. I'm glad i found this is a common problem for now because I was about to return this phone, which would make it my 4th Rezound in 2 months....
I have the same problem.
looks like a widespread issue. Should be able to fix it until an update is released by going into Maps under Applications and uninstall updates.

I also have this problem with my wife's rezound which has ics. The idea of clearing the data cache was good but you also need to clear all of the default actions by scrolling down from the Clear cache button and also press the Clear defaults button. This fixed the problem completely for my wife's rezound.
I loaded the Maps update today, and REBOOT! Reverted to factory version.
really?? this really fixed your wife's Rezound google maps? sure you didn't uninstall the updated version and its working cause if that? there is absolutely no other fix as far as I have found.please check again and advise..thx man
Oops, the fix I posted actually did not work. The HTC Rezound was still rebooting. An uninstall of the updates fixed the problem.
So I actually got fed up with this issue after being lost and needing this ASAP! I called Verizon, and after being transferred to upper level Tech Support, they told me that there are a few bugs with the new Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) and the HTC Rezound. Since it's still relatively new to this device, the applications are still trying to adjust to the specifications, and GMaps happens to be one of these applications. Other applications that you might see some issues with are Pandora as well as the Dialer. If you've upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich and need to use GMaps, I suggest you call your local Verizon Wireless store and see if they have the capability of 'flashing' your phone. If so, you can request that they "flash" your phone back to Gingerbread. This should allow you to put the new GMaps version on your phone without issue. I would suggest that if you decide to take this route, you just keep an eye out for when Android 4.1 or later is released for the Rezound. It shouldn't be too long (hopefully less than a month) for the developers to get a patch out for the Rezound. Hope this information helps some of you!
Only a 3rd party retailer would tell you they can flash you back to JB.
false. Call up to technical support via *611...and I’m talking upper tier tech support...not the low level “have you tried turning your phone off?” I mean the real tech support. He said not all verizon stores have the flash computers to do so, so he recommended that I call the local store first via the verizonwireless website. Any actual Verizon techs monitor these boards who can affirm this for me please so my credibility is restored?

If you go to a "PREMIUM RETAILER" then they have repair centers. Those stores are completely different than corporate Verizon stores and are pretty much like 3rd party retailers as they have their own policies. Just because it says Verizon on the banner doesn't mean they are Verizon.
There's no way to keep the current update without it resetting. they still haven't fixed that problem. I just uninstalled the current update to maps and it's working just fine for me. other than that I've had no problem with ICS!
Just got my Rezound in the mail yesterday. Updated the maps and yes, it reset on me. I rolled back the update and went to the older version and it works fine.
Thanks for the info optic0n
It's quie ironic and pathetic that the new version of maps is "editor's
pick"! Does the editor even have a Rezound? Lol
Thank you to the commity for your posts!
We have lifted this issue up, and it is currently being looked at. I appreciate your patience in the matter! Your software cannot be downgraded unless you use an unauthorized version and load that to the device. Keep in mind this would void your warranty. So I would not recommend going that route. Thank you again! Your feedback is always important to correcting any issue!

I also have the same GPS problem after update. Very aggravating... Called verizon tech. Only option she said is to do factory reset, which I did NOT want to do... 1 hour later it is done. All REP kept saying was verizon has met thier obligation and it is a HTC problem! Turned on GPS , seems to work..she hangs up.. Spent HOURS reloading all my old info...Got up this morning and retried it and it shut down in 11 seconds AGAIN!!! UGHHHH ... Such a waste of MANY hours.. Major headache now. Tried what one user suggested... going to settings, apps, go to maps, clear cashe AND clear data.
put it back to before update (which by the way the REP said could not be done) restart phone....WORKS !!!!!!
Better than update and much better than getting lost in new city....
Just discovered this today. Uninstalled update, problem solved. Don't use Maps much or at least not lately. Actually discovered it in the Local app, then read this post.
Thanks!
Lol I swear they get a dollar every time they get us to do a factory
reset.. every problem gets the same advice.
I always need to figure out what is wrong before I'm gonna go and wipe my
phone completely. A few bugs from the big upgrade to ICS went away without
me resorting to such measures thank god, like the WiFi not working and a
few other things. Usually it just takes a clearing of the offending apps
data and wallah...
I too just went back to the Aug. 15 version and it works well. For some
reason though it's about .5 to 3 miles.off... It always worked very well
before. Forget using the Verizon auto WiFi app.. pff
go to this web site and download the 6.9 version and that took care of my problem. chrome://newtabhttp//www.iapktop.com/google-maps-6-9-0-build609001403.html
go in and turn of auto updates and then scan the QR code and it will download to your phone and just install. It works fine for me and no reboots yet. Good Luck
Here is the QR code. Sorry about the website above.
Don't need to do that... Just uninstall the update and it'll work fine, and wait till the next update. This isn't carrier specific, but affects a lot of HTC devices regardless of carrier.

There is a new maps update today and it may fix your problem.
I see the same Aug. 16 version on the play server. What do you see? Am I
missing something?
Actually yes I see. "updated on august 29
It may take a bit for all the servers to reflect the new update.
The latest update seems to have fixed the crashing issue on the Rezound! Download and enjoy.
