Seriously Verizon, no FM radio on the HTC one

Out of the three or four android phones I have owned, only ONE had the FM radio in it. Almost all different manufacturers too.

The only Android phone I can think of off the top of my head that actually has it is the DInc2.

The Droid Bionic has it, but the Jelly Bean update didn't support it, so the feature was moot once the update was applied.

Verizon--what's up? HTC One has working radio on other carriers. I hope you didn't disable it in a lame attempt to increase data usage. I had the DINC2 and love the FM radio. Great for listening to sports when you can't watch. If it's not some marketing, then please explain why it's not enabled. Sigh. Maybe taking the phone back or changing carriers.

I have read It was Samsung"s decision not to add Fm radio capabilities to the One. There is not one carrier in the US that has a One with FM radio. Please prove me wrong with an official carrier's bulletin that says their device has the Fm radio app built in.

My Verizon HTC One will be going back into the box and back to the store... No worries.

The only people - other than some execs at Verizon - who are content with "crippling" the hardware are Verizon's competitors!

One of which (three letters and symbol) will be getting my mobile business very soon. (And I'll get a much a better-priced plan!)

The responses I have gotten from VZW's reps ranged from, "What's the FM app do?" to, "I hope you know that it's not my fault..."

And still without an FM radio, Sometimes I wonder why such things are such deal breakers, especially when the competitors phone does not have the option either.

What exactly should they have said? They can't magically create a feature the phone does not have.

As a side note, if you like the phone for everything else, can't you just buy like a cheap sandisk clip+ for like $25-$30 and use that in the rare times you need live fm that an app can't provide? I know it is another device to carry, but the thing is the size of a postage stamp and weights about as much ... not exactly a pocket filler.

could be an alternative. heck for the restocking fee they charge would basically cover the cost.

"We can confirm the radio has been removed as a function from the phone but can not confirm if it was removed from the hardware or the stock applications."

Of course the rep also went on to tell me I can stream many fm stations.

My 3-year-old OG Droid Incredible has it. As others have noted, it used to be a cool feature across many HTC phones. Now it's just a cool feature on HTC phones on other carriers.

Funny, I thought Verizon was all about helping us keep our data use down. Maybe they're under the impression that TuneIn Radio is actual radio. Yep, that's gotta be the explanation... otherwise I'd think they were full of it.

Someone should sue AT&T for listing "Built-In FM Radio" on their features list, then. And ask the AT&T users what voodoo they're using to listen to it on their phones.

Reality bites. Especially if you're stuck with Verizon. On the other hand, I'm sure they had $ound reason$ for forcing people to stream radio stations over their oh-so-generous data pipes.

I dunno, maybe because my rusty old OG Dinc does it without buying a stupid extra device, and because the chip is built into the phone and we'll undoubtedly get a workaround in the future anyway. Maybe Verizon just likes encouraging the dev community or something.

Gotta be photoshopped, because Verizon wouldn't do that. I mean, when people were asking about the phone a month ago, they referred them to AT&T's product page to check out the features, implying they'd be the same. They'd never lie to us.

3 years ago, my smartphone let me listen to the radio without having to pay $50 for a terrible mp3 player. In fact, my old phone still just works fine for this.

The question is, why do Verizon HTC One owners have to tote around crap iphone nano knockoffs or deactivated phones while AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint HTC One owners can just plug in their headphones the way HTC intended?

I thought you were supposed to be the home team here, but all you're telling me is that Verizon wants us to be fiddling with extraneous crap gadgets while our friends from other carriers laugh in our faces. Maybe they should put that in an ad.

very disappointing, if we're going to pay all this money why should we put up with a crippled version of the phone? i'm sure it's still in the hardware and disabled because they can make more money that way. waited all this time for the one on verizon but might just take my business to at&t anwyay.

I'm happy with my Slacker, WinAmp, Google Music on my Droids) When i want to listen to the Local Music stations I just Dial it up on one of my Scanners.. But it was nice when the Fm was built in..

Right... everyone knows the way you "make room" is you leave the chip in there (as evidenced by the fact that devs have already connected to it, but it just makes static and gives errors) but set a firmware flag to disable it.

I don't think you know what radio actually is. Starting to feel old now. Yes there are plenty of apps that play mp3s - that's what Google Music and Slacker are for.

But there are very few mp3s of live college football games, etc. out there.

I never use this feature and my Walkman has it, but I appreciate people asking why do carriers rip off the phones! T-mobile delivers it without headphone! Verizon changes the box and removes the radio ... not acceptable in today's free world!? I do worry about the new tech dictatorship!

I see some comments are edited, so "officials" are reading this topic. Please one of you contact the tech team and be responsible! Is it a technical reason behind it? Was it needed after adding new CDMA bandwidth or LTE capabilities? Is it a marketing decision? Please respect the customers and a have a response for them!

Looks to me the mods explained the reason for the edits.

In support of the moderators, I think they are really only removing abusive and/or personal attacks, not just anything critical of Verizon. Don't get me wrong, I very much like the service I get from Verizon, the Sprint network is an absolute nightmare, I don't mind paying any amount of extra money for good service, and I don't even really listen to the radio, but it's just little things like this that can make the difference between me being a Verizon and AT&T customer. if I can get the same phone for the same amount of money with the same service, I'm going to pick the HTC one that has a better feature set. Unless there is a serious reason for the hardware being different I don't see why taking out the FM radio can possibly be a good thing for the customers and how it can be that beneficial for Verizon either.

I was looking at the HTC One too for FM. I listen to FM stations that are too small or don't broadcast online. Plus streaming online (even with my Unlimited Data plan), take SO dang long to buffer, even on 4G LTE. FM is instant.

Now this has forced me to look at the Casio GzOne Commando 4G LTE, which DOES have FM Radio. Plus it's rugged and right now FREE (w/ 2yr contract).

Thanks Verizon for removing FM Radio! Guess the Casio will get my business!

Please add the FM tuner to the HTC one. I am strongly considering switching my $250/month family plan to one of your competitors. There is no good reason this phone does not have software for an FM tuner. My last verizon HTC phone had one.

My Casio Commando has it via Stitcher...watch that data usage if your plan is not unlimited.

Sure would be nice to get a response on this issue, other than "buy a generator"... lol.
