Go to Settings--->Applications--->Manage Applications--->click on "All" tab towards top--->Select "Camera"--->select "Clear data"---> Select "Ok"
Camera should work after this, hope it helps. You might need to repeat this step periodically.

Hello,
I'm sorry to learn that you are having some trouble with the camera application on your device. Upon further review, there doesn't appear to be a known issue concerning this particular problem. To free up some memory on your phone, and if you have a lot of downloaded applications from the App store, I recommend moving some of these applications to your memory card. To do so, please follow the steps outlined below:
From the Home screen, press Menu
Next, touch Settings
Then, scroll down and touch Applications
Next, touch Manage applications
Then, touch the Downloaded icon
Next, touch each application and view whether or not the option to move the application to your memory card is available. If so, then touch the icon that reads Move to SD card.
Once you complete the steps provided above, power off your phone, then back on. If you are still having trouble, I recommend a hands-on inspection of your device, which can be performed at one of our Verizon Wireless Corporate stores. To determine the closest location, please enter your address information at the link below:
Verizon Wireless Store Locator
Thank you.

I had the same exact problem, but after some investigation I think I found the cause. There seems to be a problem with the interaction between the camera and the Maps app that causes the camera app to keep resetting (sreen flashes black every 3-4 seconds, makes it very tough to take a picture).
Hopefully an update fixes the problem, but until then I was able to fix the camera by turning off geotagging. Geotagging uses your gps and the map application to store gps coordinates in the photo's metadata. Turning it off means the camera no longer tries to access the gps on your phone, and the issue goes away. If you're having trouble navigating the menus to turn off geotagging between the app resetting, turn off your phone's gps. This will temporarily fix the problem until you can get into the camera settings to turn off geotagging and reenable the gps.
Hope this helps!

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem. Turning off geo-tag or Google location service solves the problem. HTC and Verizon better be fixing this problem.

I started experiencing the camera issue last night.
The camera would just start blinking and eventually force close itself.
I had to remove the battery and it seemed to resolve the issue.
Then about 30 minutes later it started again. I removed the battery again.
I started researching.
I read another post which said that turning of geotags within Camera, might help resolve the issue.
Camera --> MENU --> Geo-tag photos (set to off)
I've only been a Verizon customer for about 30 days, but I'm thinking of switching to another carrier.
With all the 3g/4g issues and the periodic reboots, I paid for great device and service..
However, I'm getting something worse than my old iPhone 3g on AT&T.

It really bugs me to see this marked as "solved" to a solution that doesn't work!!! And I called a tech who, barely researched it and said I HAD to do a factory reset to resolve it. Found this message and IT IS the Geo-tag. Unclicked it. Problem Solved. VERIZON - this is a documented issue, get it fixed!

Now bare with me on this one but I can verified this to work, I had read about users having camera issues but I never seen it until recently I had a customer camera on their TB simply not load, screen would go black and then back to home page...
I read on a few post that this happened on some of the leak build of GB but it wasnt reported for Froyo but I decided to try the solution and it seem to worked.... Try disabling auto time setting under the clock menu and set the date to 07-24-2011 or any date before 09-01-2011 was reported to work and the open camera, it usually FC but if you click camera icon again it should open and after this happens you should be able to change clock back to auto and issue stops..
Told it was a weird one... But worked for what I needed.

it did work for the member that originally posted this. he/she is the only one that can mark it solved so it worked for them. there are a number of things that can cause similar issues. what fixed yours will not fix everyone with the issue.
