First off, this is NOT the sim issue that everyone has been having. I had that also and already took care of that problem. My issue now is that I am not receiving replies to text messages from people. It is not happenening with just 1 person either. I have called them to verify that they are receiving my messages, and asked if they replied, all of which stated they had, Great. Now sometimes if I send myself a message, mine shows up, along with 1 or 2 of the replies from a while back. This is really really really starting to irritate the every living crap out of me and something needs to be done. I have already pulled the battery for 15 minutes along with the sim card. Has anyone else had this issue or is it a known problem which has a fix? Thanks in advance

This happens sometimes with nearly all Verizon phones. It's not a phone issue, rather a network issue. I've found that calling the person who I'm texting just to get the call to connect, and then hanging up will bring in a flood of text messages. Also, you could try updating your PRL by dialing *228, option 2.

*228 doesn't work on the Thunderbolt and shouldn't be used since everything is managed by the sim card. It's supposed to immediately disconnect the call but some people have managed to goof up their sim cards.

Ah, thank you. I hadn't heard that *228 didn't work on the Thunderbolt. In that case, I can't think of any fix for the OP's problem. It definitely just sounds like a network hangup.

i ordered my tbolt today and when i asked about activating, he told me to just dial *228. i explained that i thought that the sim card would cativate it itself, and that when i get the phone i was simply supposed to turn off my old device, insert the sim, and turn on the phone....to which he replied, "yes, and then dial *228. all of our phones are activated this way." i said "really? even phones with sim cards and the iphone?" he said "yes." i then recieved my email verifying my order with instructions to dial *228 when i receive my phone. just so i'm clear, the sim card "should" activate it on it's own, correct????? i didn't feel like debating the guy, but when when i got email instructions telling me to do this also, i got a bit concerned.
and for the record, i've never had any texting issues with any verizon phone. i've been texting for about 5 years on 4 or 5 different devices. i've never had any issues?

I purchased mine in store but believe the paper work that comes with online orders lists an 800 number to call. You can also apparently do the device switch online in My Verizon. Once you get everything set and put the sim card in the phone, it should start activating on boot

Yah just put your sim card in and it will over the air activate..
I don't know why stores are telling people to star 228 for 4g devices.. what a joke

The sim issue is where your sim number shows up on the other person's phone when you send texts instead of your actual phone number.

Try switching it in and out of Airplane Mode, that worked for me.

Once again wouldn't it be nice if someone officially authorized by Verizon unequivocally gave an official stance on *228 usage with the Thunderbolt? Also might be nice of them to take a stance on LTE (4G) toggle off (an authorized, official way to switch off $G service for those who would like to avail themselves of this option) The hodge-podge of contradictory "fixes" and do's/don's coming from contributors (well meaning though they be) should not be tolerated especially on a Corporate hosted forum.
*_VZW contributor/moderator where are you?

lol. Nothing that has been mentioned is violating any policies set by Verizon. *228 doesn't work on their LTE devices. Period. It's supposed to immediately disconnect when you try to dial it but some people have fried their sim cards because of the less informed reps. There should be a built in toggle widget or somethings similar but the beauty of the Android market is that viable options come much quicker than you'll get from Verizon or any of the manufacturers

My point exactly If *228 doesn't work with LTE devices why are Verizon customer service or included documentation saying to do this. Who's fault would it be if the SIM card is damaged following a Verizon rep instructions? A little consistency should be paramount. This is suppose to be the LTE Flagship phone.

This is a known issue for Verizon. I just got it fixed finally by talking to Tech Support. They will first have you power down your phone to see if that fixes it. If it doesn't, they will again have you power down and remove your battery. When the battery has been removed, they will perform some change on their end. After that is done they will have you re-insert your battery and boot up the phone. This may take a little while since it has to reload the operating system and widgets. Once everything comes back up it works fine.
The problem of people not being able to reply to your SMS texts is because for some reason your SIM or IMSI number shows up in your text message as your phone number. So when they reply to your message it goes into the black hole. Once Verizon fixes the problem your number will show up in the text message as it should. Good luck and happy humting.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Cantuckee,
I was having the same problem of not getting any replies. If someone hit reply to a text message I sent, then I would never get it. I had the sim issue at first but a quick reboot took care of that. I fixed the reply issue by downloading GoSMS from the android market. Once I did that I could get replies. At first I thought I had to keep the new program, but after I uninstalled it (on a hunch) I could get replies. It seems that GoSMS bypasses whatever the issue is and once it's bypassed the phone auto corrects the issue. I don't know if this will work for you, but it did for me. It was about to be a deal breaker for the phone....
