No ... a SIM card is what connects you to Verizon's cellular network; an SD card is a memory card where you store files like photos and videos.

i just got a replacement phone and i put my sd card in and it says i need a sim card for phone to work .where is the sim card located on a thunderbolt htc

You have to remove the battery to get to the SIM card slot:
