Check the market for the updated version of the Speedtest.net app. Supposedly it can actually test the 4G LTE speed correctly now. http://community.vzw.com/t5/image/gallerypage/user-id/75820/image-id/2838i68F5961E77780513

Looks like I'll finally get to taste the LTE goodness Thursday one way or another. Hoping it goes live in Raleigh on Thursday along with the others but if not, I'm gonna have to make a trip to my parent's house in Wilmington since it's already been confirmed. lol

Looks like they've updated the online coverage maps to show the new lte areas. My parents live a mile or so from the extended coverage area.

Here are the results from the Tampa, Florida region...
Using 4G (in Mbps):
Run# Download Upload
Run 1: 15.7 3.6
Run 2: 12.3 3.5
Run 3: 4.9 1.7 (only 1 bar on my phone during this run)
Run 4: 11.1 3.4
Run 5: 10.0 3.7
With the exception of Run 3, all runs were made with 2 to 3 bars on the signal strength.
Nice!
Using 3G (in Mbps):
Run# Download Upload
Run 1: 0.322 0.641
Run 2: 0.356 0.267
Run 3: 0.315 0.323
Who's got time to try 5 test runs at 3G speeds! Not so nice!

Welp...definitely no LTE at my parents house. All I get is this:
Good news is that I get LTE where my cousin plays baseball but I'm going to call **bleep** on Verizon's coverage map. LTE all the way down Highway 17 my foot. 3G test
LTE test at the same location.

Nice. The area I was in last night was about 15 miles south of wilmington so think I'll actually head into town today and see what kind of numbers I get.

Back in Raleigh- AKA land of no LTE now. Twas fun while it lasted. Below is while sitting at the beach south of Wilmington. Verizon has LTE antennas on pretty much every water tower on the island. I still didn't get it in some of the spots on the way there that were supposed to be native LTE areas (not extended). I'll just chalk it up to it only being a couple days old. Didn't actually get to test it out in Wilmington where I'm sure they have more backhaul and faster speeds but ~7x5 is still blazing fast compared to 3G.

My house is in Porters Neck area, and I am getting zero 4G in my house. I work south of Castle Hayne, and I can get 4G in the parking lot, but I get zero 4G in the office building. I get good 3G at all of those locations, but not 4G.
VZW had better get more 4G coverage in the Wilmington area. It is not working for me. I keep my thunderbolt in 3G and WiFi most of the time in what is supposed to be a 4G area. I thought that the merit of LTE on VZW was that 700 MHz had better building penetration. Not so here.
