Will I be forced to take ICS update?

Will I be forced to take the ICS upgrade? I have heard that others TB phones have updated overnight without their consent, Fortunately I have not gotten the update and don't want it, my phone works perfect as it is, best phone I've ever had. I tried ICS on the Rezound and hated it. Why would we be forced to ruin a perfectly good phone, If so I will be dropping Verizon.

You are NOT forced to accept any update. You will get a pop up that tells you there is an update available and you can select to install it now, or tell it No you do Not want it now. If you do select No, it will continue to notify you that the update is available

And if you leave Verizon what phone will you get that doesn't have ICS or Jelly Bean on it? You can't take your Rezound to another carrier.

I already dumped the rezound, what a pos, might have been great with GB but with ICS it sucks.

I had a Rezound, it was a POS too. ICS may not be a bad thing on a phone that actually works right..(LOL)

My update automatically started Saturday morning without me giving any permission, but so far so good just can't access some of my freaky websites.

Pretty sure all new android phones that you get or want will have ICS installed.

Probably Jelly Bean (android 4.1+) more than ICS.

There was no warning. My thunderbolt upgraded automatically. My phone is now virtually useless. It is slower by at least a factor of three. I am typing this on my Nexus tablet because using the phone now is just way too frustrating. I tap a button and wait five seconds for it to change color to show it was pressed. I have to slow my typing by a factor of five so the screen can keep up with my typing. Apps that were rock solid now just crash mysteriously. And the programmers at Android did not help by switching the order of the OK and cancel buttons. Since when did google hire programmers with the IQ of a dish rag? I fully expect to see an online Dvorak keyboard on the next upgrade with a note that Qwerty keyboards are no longer available because Dvorak keyboards are better. If I wrote crap software like this, I would have been homeless a long time ago. Upgrading without asking for permission is inexcusable.

How would people have felt if Microsoft upgraded all WinXP users to Vista... Overnight... Without asking? I'm just hoping I can get something installed that restores this phone to some semblance of usability...

I had no choice in the matter - I woke up Saturday morning with the update already complete...but had I been given an option, I probably would have updated since I had not prior certainties the my phone would become almost unusable!! I just hope I don't have an emergency call to make anytime soon - as it now takes such a long time to respond or process all tasks!!

Have you tried a Cache wipe on your phone? There are varies ways to dot hem and it is different on each phone, but the cache wipes get rid of the old left behind code and does work wonders. you lose NOTHING, it is not a FDR. An FDR would be the last resort as well.

It would be nice if that notification included the issues that MAY be experienced by installing the upgrade, so we could make an INFORMED choice...

I dont disagree with you at all. It would be nice it the notification itself took you to a read me section so you could see the following:

What is changing

What is Added

What is retired

What issues you might experience in updating

When did you do the update on your phone? If you have a lot of pictures / videos, apps, files etc... on the phone it will take ICS up to 72 hours to optimize the apps, etc... and then another 72 - 96 hours to optimize to how you use it.

Wow that's a long time. I didn't realize that. I thought during the update when it said optimizing you applications, then it went through them one by one; that was it. I had no idea software could silently install over that length of time. Technology is really something else nowdays. Hopefully this explains a lot of things.

It will run through several Optimizing processes. 1 for each of the below and then some

Apps

Pictures

Music

Sounds

Notifications

Movies

Text Files

Word Files (etc...each file type)

System Files

and more.

Then after it has optimized all of these it will look for your patterns to see how you use the phone and make small adjustments along the way.

A few things you can do if it has been some time now since you have installed ICS.

Do a Cache Wipe (this does NOT touch anything you see or use, it only clears out old orphaned code)

If you have ever changed the SIM Card in your phone and have NOT done a FDR, you might consider that as well but normally the Cache wipe will do the job.
