We recently moved into our multiple story townhome and have found some deadzones with our Wifi. Below is my current setup and would like your thoughts on the solution:
- Verizon brought in FIOS to our media box in the basement and tied it into an existing coaxial cable on the 4 and 1 splitter the general contractor had placed into our basement. It works fine.
- Coaxial was pre-run through out the house.
- The coaxial they tied into runs to our second story floor and our FIOS provided router with Wireless capability resides there now. Its GREAT for the 2nd and 3rd floors so we dont want to move it, but it does not provide us the connectivity or speed we need in the basement for our wireless smart TV and media center.
- I have a coaxial cable in the basment that is not being used and can be tied into the 4 and 1 splitter that the current FIOS service terminates into and currently feeds one of the coax's to the 2nd floor. The question is can I just tie the basement coax to the splitter and have Internet Service now on that coaxial as well?
- If Yes-I then plan to hook up an Apple Airport Extreme to serve as a second wireless router for use in the basement to obtain the speed we would like. I have had this expensive device laying around for two years and want to make use of it. Can you tell me what I may need to facilitate this and will I have any confliciting issue with I.P's or whatever?
- If No-the what do you recommend I use to gain the best use of the pre-run coaxial? I thought of a wirelss range extender but the General Contrator did not provide me any power outlets from our deadzone (basement) up to the 2nd floor and I want to avoid running a power outlet intot th stairway.
