I have an Orbic 5G UW. I'm getting ready to travel internationally and wondered can I insert a SIM for another country and use this hotspot. It will be connected to a 4GLTE network

I don't know if mobile hotspots are included in the device unlocking policy. Considering the Orbic is designed to work with Verizon's network, it also may not be compatible with an overseas carrier's network as their spectrum is going to be different.

I will be in the British Virgin Islands whose network is compatible with Verizon equipment. For my phone I can buy the Verizon daily plan for $12 a day on days it's used. I've done this before and everything works fine. However the Orbic is not listed on my account as eligible for the plan which is why I wondered if I could replace the SIM with a local SIM.

Hello, I would be happy to help confirm whether or not it is unlocked. Hotspot will work if the international carrier's sim card has that capability. I am sending you a private message now.

I had an extended conversation with Verizon support who was unable to answer the question about the Orbic being locked nor if Verizon has an international plan for the jetpack. Since Verizon phones work fine in my destination (British Virgin Islands) I would assume a Verizon jetpack would as well. My plan is to get a SIM for the BVI network with an initial low data amount and see if it works. If it doesn't I'll just hotspot my phone which should work.

Just curious, but why not buy service from the BVI carrier for your phone? Unless your phone is very new and hasn't met the "60 day use on Verizon" unlocking policy, might be more cost effective to do it that way, especially if you're thinking of using the phone as a hotspot. There is a limited amount of data on Travel Pass or the monthly International Service Plan with Verizon, and if you run out... If you do buy local service, you have to make sure the BVI number is the primary one on your phone, and make sure your apps are configured to run through that number as well, otherwise it will be triggering Travel Pass charges.
Depending on where you're staying, many hotels offer WiFi, which is another option if you're wanting to connect a laptop or tablet to the internet.

We will be on a bareboat sailing charter, something we've done 14 times before. The boat has WiFi which we plan to use. Past experience says the onboard WiFi can be spotty so I bring a jetpack as a backup. Since Verizon's TravelPass apparently only applies to phones, I would need to put the Orbic on the local cell system (which is what Verizon is using anyway). To do that requires a local SIM which I've done in the past as well on an unlocked unit. All that brings me back to the original question is it unlocked.

Thank you for your question. If your Jetpack has been active on the account for over 60 days, it is unlocked. We suggest you to check network compatibility with the carrier you are planning to use for this trip. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
