I just noticed today, just now, that I have received this IMG upgrade, which I honestly didn't know anything about.
I see that the colors are darker now, I guess with more of a contrast instead of brightness, another change to get used to I guess.
Everything seems to be working fine but I just want to know, am I now going to need an STB upgrade? My STB is the QIP-7100.

You should be good with the 7100. I have two of them, have had 1.9.1 for almost two weeks now, both work just fine. And one of the really nice enhancements is the ability to specify the time the Info bar displays when you change channels or hit the OK/FiOS TV buttons, I hated the 8 to 10 seconds it displayed any time I did something with the remote.

Yes, I see that my STB 7100 still accommodates the IMG program just the same.
I haven't noticed a whole a lot of difference besides the background colors but that probably also depends on your habits and what you use it for. I just checked out the options for specifying how long you want the info bar to stay on the bottom of your screen. The 8 seconds doesn't bother me so I'm leaving that alone. Whenever I want to read the entire synopsis of the program, I just click on the info bar twice.
There are so many other features on my Fios TV that I probably will never use because of time limitations and lack of necessity but I can't complain given the deal I am getting.
This has nothing to do with the IMG but one neat thing that I like is being able to play back voice mail messages on my TV. The sound is so sharp and clear, as if the person speaking is right there in the room with me. I also like being able to check for voice mail on line instead of just by phone.
