Pixelation/skips in DVR recordings

Ever since the 1.9 upgrade about 2 weeks ago, every single recording on the DVR I've made has had one moment where it skips, and becomes slightly pixelated. This doesn't happen watching live TV, and it almost never happened in recordings pre-1.9. My DVR is the QIP 7216 1.
Is anyone else seeing this? Does anyone have any ideas for solving it?

Yes, same exact thing here. During one freeze my whole box crashed and rebooted even. No idea on how to fix it though 😞

Yes, I've noticed it also since 1.9. It's not every show...maybe a third to a half of them. It's minor at this point...no more than a second or two of a skip or brief pixalation.
Not worth the torture of trying to contact Verizon tech support.

is it happening at a specific time in the recordings, or randomly?
Also, is audio affected, or just video?
if you can characterize it a bit further the technical guys may be able to explain why it is happening...

This has been happening to on my DVR more and more often since it was upgraded to 1.9. The last movie I recorded had such frequent pixelated video and dropped audio that it was unwatchable. Other shows have frequent glitches throughout.
Is Verizon working on a cure for this?

Could be your DVR. Is it old? Are there Pixelation/skips on a non DVR or when it is live?js99 wrote:

I have two of the new 7232 DVRs here in Reston Virginia. Ever since the upgrade to 1.9 I have same thing pixeliation at least once and at times many more in each and every one of my recordings. Sure is a real pain and I certainly hope Verizon does something about it.......

I have a 7232, got it early this year with 1.8 and have had 1.9 on it for about three months. I agree, I do see some additional pixelation since 1.9; not much, and not enough to really affect my enjoyment of watching a recording, but noticable, maybe twice in a 30 minute recording for maybe one to two seconds each time.
Actually, I seem to see pixelation more frequently on live programs also since 1.9. I have no idea whether it is 1.9 related or something in the local network distribution. And of course it could be that the issues I see in the recordings are really from the live broadcasts.

good feedback guys, we'll ask the developers to look into this...

May be related to a use case where you are recording and playing back at the same time.
The developers are aware this can sometimes slightly impact picture q.
I don't think this would cause a more serious or continuous pixelation though, that sounds like a bad feed or some other issue.
so yes, this is on our radar...

I don't think it is directly related to 1.9 because lately I have experienced the same issue and in NY we have yet to receive the 1.9 upgrade.

I am also in NY and have also seen the same problem occasionally and I have a 7232. So the problem is neither with 1.9 nor a particular DVR..

I can conform with the poster above that there was random pixelation and audio cutting out during my last OnDemand movie. The service was just installed that day, so I dont have anything to compare to. I didnt notice any hiccups all day, only when we started using some OD did we notice it.

Not just 7232, but also in Cisco 435. When watching recorded content the DVR will pixelate really bad and skip. Stop viewing and restart and then it continues normal at the same place there were problems. So it is not a bad recording or feed of the content, and is a DVR issue. This from the internal drive no other recording in progress or MRDVR being viewed by another HD box. So it should not be a network issue or heavy load on the DVR.
At least it was not locking up last night where it required a cold reboot, or off and on.

I'm in California, have the QIP 7232 2 DVR and 1.9 O/S. Reading the previous posts is like deja vu. I'm experiencing the same pixelation and audio cutting out for a second (or split second) too. I, too, am hesitant to call Verizon technical support because the first thing they want to do is reset the STB! I hate having to re-select all my favorites (I know, whaa...).
We don't watch On Demand very often since we have Netlix streaming. We've never experienced this problem with Netflix.
Also, we recently got the QIP 7232 2 box, just after the update to 1.9 OS. I didn't notice these problems before the new STB, even after the 1.9 update. But, my older STB died shortly after the O/S update, so I had to get the new STB and decided on the larger hard drive.
VERIZON... are you listening? This is definitely a problem across the nation.

I have definitely noticed this as well since IMG 1.9 in NY. I have tried almost everything and it still continues to happen on recordings and on live TV. Not a major problem but slightly annoying. i am sure Verizon will fix this issue.

We have 1.9 and a 7232 and have the same issue, every recording has a skip, pixelates and audio drops somewhere in a playback, whether we are watching during a recording during a new recording or the box is idle. In fact a few times both tuners were recrding and I tried to watch something and the box froze and then rebooted.
Another issue I have is channel specific. Here in VHO8 if I record anything on the Fox channel, 513, during playback right before the show goes in the commercial it skips back a second or two, pixelates and then continues. Every single commercial break for any Fox show, and we record House, Alcatraz and Fringe, so it isn't show specific.

Have experienced the same problem since upgrade to 1.9. Thought it may have been caused by external drive. Detached external drive and had same problems. Have two 7232 dvrs experiencing the same problem. Located in North Texas (VHO 1). Reboot of dvrs seems to reduce issue for a short period of time. Verizon techs you call are not aware of issue. Signal is strong on both dvrs.

Add me to list of problems with 1.9. Only on my 7232. It it has gotten to the point where I have stopped recording because even live TV is pixelated when I am recording something else. We have 3 other DVRs with no problems since 1.9. I don't even try calling because I have done all (unplug, etc), am just waiting for new upgrade. I am a software developer so it is frustrating when you know it has to be software since there was absolutely no problems before 1.9. Just fix the program or give me back the previous version!!!!
