KIN onem Firmware downgraded?

When I turned on my KIN onem today, a screen popped up that said "UPGRADING MODEM" and advised me to not remove the battery. I thought, "what, an update?" and let it go. When it finished and started up, it started to guide me through setup. However, it also asked me for an email address for a KIN account. Of course, the KIN service is gone, so I thought this strange. Going through the menus (not setting up an account), it appears my phone has downgraded back to KIN one firmware 1.0 (2814.0), and deleted all the data. What do I do? I tried Googling, but couldn't find a way to upgrade back to 1.0.1 (the newest firmware?). I've tried the built-in phone reset. I've tried dialing *028, but nothing has worked. Is there a way to upgrade the formware? Do I have to get a replacement phone?

Yikes! That sounds like it might have to be a warranty issue to me.

Hmm...sounds to me like the process described in the thread below got started somehow:
