Seriously? KIN One and Two..

Here is just a list of what I think about this phone.

Thing ONE and Thing Two..

The OS I saw from video's.

A: Not bad

2.4 in QVGA

A: No thanks

3.5 in 480x320

A: SWEET last year

4 and 8 gig internal storage

A: Totally ridiculous. Upload my pics and video's to Bill Gates server and leave me no room for music and movies.

5.0 MP camera

A: sure sure thanks

8.0 MP camera 720p Vid

A: The only attractive thing about this phone and soon all phones will have it.

If windows main objective was to market a phone to young people and buy an entry level phone for some spoiled brat always on the computer with earbuds in than good luck. This phone is way too advanced for a 12 year old to fully benefit from the overall usage of the OS. 

If windows wants me to buy this phone I hope they can do better than small internal storage and 15 minute social media application updates. Oh I guess I can hit a button to manually receive new messages. I suppose if I hit "refresh" every ten seconds I can pull that off 90 times in 15 min. Thats really convenient. 

This is obviously not a business phone...

Who is this phone marketed for?

I believe this is marketed toward 18- to 30-year-olds, and the Kin Web site does a pretty good job at doing so. I think teens and early 20-somethings will want this phone. It's obviously not intended to be a business device in any way.

This phone is targeted to customers, that spends majority of their time on their social media accounts.  Customers that share  photos and videos often with their social media friends. (you can upload photos and videos wirelessly at the click of 1 button.  Customers that are large on texting.  For more information on the Kin device you can visit these sites

I am probably in their target demo. Unfortunatly I am pretty heavily invested in google: gmail, gchat, docs, voice... I want to try windows phone 7 but I probably won't be able to unplug from the google matrix anytime soon.

If it had calendar support for Exchange, I would go ahead and do a phone upgrade and not wait for Windows Mobile 7.  it can already do Exchange e-mail and contacts.  But, since it has no calendar support, I will continue to wait.  I really like the spot feature from watching the video demos.  Looks like a cool phone.  But I need my calendar.

But whats the point of a social media phone that takes 15 minutes to update? In this fast paced world of NOW NOW NOW this phone won't work for the die-hard Twitterers, Facebooks, Lives, and so on.

If the demand for this fast paced life didn't exist than this phone wouldn't even exist.

Not that they couldn't do it but I am not sure that facebook has a push mechanism with it's own app (at least on android) and not real sure that anyone uses myspace anymore. If facebook doesn't have push then you are talking about pulling updates every 5 minutes. Probably a killer for battery life.

I have to agree here.  At 22, I would say I'm reasonably within their target zone for this phone.  But without trying to sound like a Negative Nancy, what would compel me to choose this over an Android phone?  Now I know that not everybody works within this industry, but anything I know about these phones is just from digging around on the internet.  While I do intend to get the Incredible and may be biased, even a Devour would satisfy all the social-networking needs while at the same time providing a more open OS and access to nearly 40,000 apps!

I think what everyone is missing even the Engadget review, is the fact that this phone has a specific target audience. I'm a tech person myself and everyone’s points are valid but when looking at this phone, I feel that it needs to be based on the target audience’s point of view. It's not meant to compete with the IPhone or Google phone, that’s what the Windows 7 Phones are meant for, the Kin is meant to compete with feature phones. So I will use my daughter as an example, as she is part of that target audience: She does not care about all the apps's that's available for the iPhone nor the Google phones, she just wants internet access, to be able to keep in touch with her friend’s via Facebook "she doesn't use tweeter", texting is huge for her, music, camera "she loves to be able to take pictures with her phone because she does not always have her camera handy" and email access. She could care less about calendar, that's something that I would care about so for me this phone would not meet my needs but again this phone is not targeted for me. I pick up this phone yesterday for my daughter and she actually moved away from a droid to this phone and she absolutely loves it so far “day 2 into the phone”. She loves how easy it is for her to stay in touch with her friends on Facebook, she really loves the Zune integration “the ability for her to play songs directly from the Marketplace blew her mind, she cannot stop playing Justin Barber L”  . My daughter also loves the Studio, she can take a picture with her camera and have access to all her information when she’s on her computer without having to do anything, such as send it to herself via email. She stated to me that the Droid was just too much for her to deal with, she had no use for all what it did. So for her this phone hit the mark.

Now for me “as a parent, I wish we had a cheaper data plan and in my mind I think like the Engadet reviewer…. If I’m going to spend the same amount as I would for a smartphone then why not get a smartphone. If I think like my daughter, why bother with all that when I’m simply not going to use it, give me something that I will use and make my life a little easier.
