Daydream not working post-Lollipop upgrade

So, as I've posted elsewhere, I was forced into the Lollipop "upgrade" last week. While I'm not happy with the new OS, at least my phone seems to have fewer and/or less sever problems than some peoples'.  But, there is one feature that I cannot get to function at all: Daydream.

Is Daydream working for anyone after the Lollipop upgrade?  Has anyone had the same problem and, if so, have you found a solution you'd care to share?

I've tried everything I can think of, from power cycles to FDRs, with no effect.

I use my phone as my bedside alarm clock (in a TyltVu wireless cradle), and Daydream was perfect for this, but now it doesn't work at all. And when I tap the screen in the night to see the time, the clock is so small I can't make it out without my glasses (this was never a problem with Daydream).

Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Mine works also, I just had to turn it on. Settings>Display>Daydream

Toggled it on, but then had to go withing the Daydream settings and specify "When to Daydream"

While docked, While charging, or Either.

You can also select whether it displays Alarm/Clock or Google Photos

Hope this helps and that you have just been overlooking where this is within your settings.

I'm glad to hear it's working for you both; that gives me hope. I had no trouble finding and activating Daydream in Lollipop; it just wouldn't work. However, I did have an interesting thing happen since my original post.

I had not yet tested my charging time while plugged into the wall charger (I almost exclusively use wireless and car charging), so I did this last evening. As usual since the upgrade, my screen was completely black during the charging process, despite Daydream being set to activate while charging.

But, as soon as I heard the ding indicating it had reached 100% (after about an hour), lo and behold, Daydream activated all on its own!  I have no idea why this would have occurred.  I tested it again today, with the battery drained a bit and, much to my pleasant surprise, Daydream activates when the phone is plugged into the wall charger.  I also tried it with my car charger - which I had done previously without positive results - and, sure enough, this time Daydream activated while the phone was connected to my car charger, as well.

However, it still will not activate when I set the phone on a wireless charger; either my TyltVu or the Nokia I bought when I bought the phone.

Curiouser and curiouser ....

TrekkieMonster, glad the Daydream feature is working for you now. I know there is still a concern with some accessories and a huge part is that when updates come out, the software that is included in the accessory has to update too or situations like this can incur.

Especially we know that Daydream is working when on the wall charger and the car charger, we know the feature is running fine.Just not with the wireless chargers. One option I would suggest is to contact the manufacturers of the accessories that are not working ( even LG may be a huge help in this one too) and see if this is a common issue or if they have a fix for it.

Best of luck to you!

I appreciate you responding, I guess. But I think there is bit of a misunderstanding here. Unless I am very much mistaken, there is no "software" involved in the accessories I'm concerned about; they are merely Qi inductive transmission pads. Rather, I believe the only logical answer to the conundrum is that the Verizon's version of Android 5.0.2 is not recognizing wireless Qi charging as an event that should trigger Daydream to activate; just as it apparently did not initially seem to recognize any charging event as one that should trigger Daydream to activate.  This is clearly an issue with Verizon's version of Android  5.0.2 (well, there are clearly several issues), as my Qi charging pads were working just fine with my phone even up until mere moments before I began installing the OS upgrade.  If there is not an immediate work-around for this issue (which I highly doubt), I am hoping for some assurance that Verizon will include a remedy for this problem in some future software or firmware update.

So, I have a little update for those of you playing along at home.  This morning when I woke up I picked my phone up off the wireless charging cradle to check the time, as usual.  When I did that the screen was black, as it has been since the Lollipop upgrade.  I determined it was too early to get up and set the phone back on the wireless charging cradle, as has happened dozens up times since the upgrade.  When I opened my eyes again several minutes later, much to my surprise, DayDream was functioning on my phone.  I have no idea why or what triggered this change.  Absolutely nothing has changed, to the best of my knowledge, over the past several weeks.  I did nothing different this morning than I have many, many other mornings.  I checked my settings, and I'm still running Android 5.0.2 and firmware version 039A.

I am very happy about this development, though it still does not leave me feeling especially sanguine about Verizon Wireless or this whole "upgrade" process.  I have also discovered another minor issue with another phone feature that is no longer functioning since the upgrade, and my battery life is still much worse than pre-upgrade. I suppose I should be happy that my phone is functioning at all.

I always had an issue with Quiet Mode coming on after the 4.4.2 update.  This morning my GF's G2 failed to set off 3 15 min incremental alarms.  The clock/time function and process of the G2 has always been a mystery to me.

Now that you mention it, I seem to recall having a problem with Quiet Mode right after the 4.4.2 update, as well. But, it seems to me that they pushed out a further firmware update or something that fixed it. I know it was working fine for me for the past several months.  I've never had a problem with my clock or time function, or my alarm, as far as I know.  I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that Daydream will activate again when I put the phone on the wireless charger.  I had an app update this morning that wants me to restart the phone, and I'm reluctant to do so for fear of losing Daydream again.  Ah, the trials and tribulations of our modern connected life.

Snn5,

That is odd the Quiet Mode is activating itself. I use my phone for my alarm every morning so I know how important it is for it to work. Does your girlfriends phone still have the issues with Quiet Mode activating when the phone is in Safe Mode?

It is supposed to activate itself.  That feature as well as Daydream are known bugs since 4.4.2.  No fix has come yet.

There is an android bug where Day Dream works but not in landscape view. Only works if screen turns off with a landscape window or app already on screen at the time. Still no fix in 5.0.2.

Well, so much for that. Went to bed last night, put the phone in the wireless charging cradle and ... nothing; black screen again. I tried everything I could think of (including restarting the phone) but Daydream would not activate. Even if I activated it manually, as soon as I placed the phone in the charging cradle, the charging graphic would appear briefly and then the screen would go blank.

This morning, when I woke up, I tried the same thing that happened yesterday morning: taking the phone off the cradle and placing it back, but still nothing.  Then I remembered that yesterday I unlocked the phone first and, when I did this then placed it back in the cradle, sure enough, Daydream started again.  Apparently, it will only works on the wireless charger when the phone is already fully charged.  Yeah, that's a lot of help.  O.o
