I have called Verizon and talked on the phone for several hours with no help whatsoever. I can get the model (LG G2) but the techs have said it is affecting other phones as well, so they are recommending getting the LG G3. The funny part is that they won't send me the G3 replacement.
Here's the problems:
-In a moderately lit room, or darker, the Knock On feature doesn't work. It "thinks" it's in a pocket and doesn't turn on. If I try to hit the power button on the back, it flickers the screen on and off. Annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It becomes unusable after 6PM.
-When I am in a call and put the phone to my head, it's game over. When I take it away from my head, the screen doesn't turn back on so I have to hold the power button for 10-15 seconds to reboot the phone. Great feature Verizon!!
Moral of the story is that Verizon does not test these phones well enough, and they don't stand behind their techs who recommended to get a G3.
So I'm stuck with a screwed-up phone unless Verizon takes care of the customer. T-Mobile is looking very enticing now...

If it's under a year old, it may be time to talk to LG. Use the manufacturer's warranty.

Also, this phone is in pristine condition, is not rooted, and has been factory reset.
Here I am typing on my computer, because in a dark room you cannot get the screen to turn on as I described above.

I have an LG G2. Took the update two days ago. I just walked into a completely dark room and had absolutely no difficulty waking the screen with the double-tap.
Try backing up your important content to a PC, writing down important email settings, and do a Factory Data Reset.

No issues here, either. My wife's G2 works great with the new update. No problems like you've experienced. I agree that a reset may be needed here.

FWIW, took the 2nd update two hours ago after your post and my reply. Knock on and off still working fine in a completely dark room on my device. If a FDR doesn't work, you might want to try using SAFE mode. It's possible something is colliding. Sorry can't be of more help.

Thanks for the reply. I've already done a factory data reset and unfortunately it didn't work. Glad yours is working fine!

Also, I tried safe phone as suggested by customer service and that didn't work either.

I agree, looks like it's time for a warranty replacement.
Customer service did say it was affecting other G2's as well, so I'm not the only one. Seems like I'm in the minority though.

I'm having the same exact problem with my phone! I've spent hours on the phone with them an I am going to try the factory reset. I loved my G two before this stupid update
