Do not take the latest update! It screwed up the proximity sensor and my phone is unusable.

I have called Verizon and talked on the phone for several hours with no help whatsoever. I can get the model (LG G2) but the techs have said it is affecting other phones as well, so they are recommending getting the LG G3. The funny part is that they won't send me the G3 replacement.
Here's the problems:
-In a moderately lit room, or darker, the Knock On feature doesn't work. It "thinks" it's in a pocket and doesn't turn on. If I try to hit the power button on the back, it flickers the screen on and off. Annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It becomes unusable after 6PM.
-When I am in a call and put the phone to my head, it's game over. When I take it away from my head, the screen doesn't turn back on so I have to hold the power button for 10-15 seconds to reboot the phone. Great feature Verizon!!
Moral of the story is that Verizon does not test these phones well enough, and they don't stand behind their techs who recommended to get a G3.
So I'm stuck with a screwed-up phone unless Verizon takes care of the customer. T-Mobile is looking very enticing now...

If it's under a year old, it may be time to talk to LG. Use the manufacturer's warranty.

Also, this phone is in pristine condition, is not rooted, and has been factory reset.
Here I am typing on my computer, because in a dark room you cannot get the screen to turn on as I described above.

I have an LG G2. Took the update two days ago. I just walked into a completely dark room and had absolutely no difficulty waking the screen with the double-tap.
Try backing up your important content to a PC, writing down important email settings, and do a Factory Data Reset.

Thanks for the reply. I've already done a factory data reset and unfortunately it didn't work. Glad yours is working fine!

No issues here, either. My wife's G2 works great with the new update. No problems like you've experienced. I agree that a reset may be needed here.

I agree, looks like it's time for a warranty replacement.
Customer service did say it was affecting other G2's as well, so I'm not the only one. Seems like I'm in the minority though.

FWIW, took the 2nd update two hours ago after your post and my reply. Knock on and off still working fine in a completely dark room on my device. If a FDR doesn't work, you might want to try using SAFE mode. It's possible something is colliding. Sorry can't be of more help.

Sorry to hear it. I don't know what to do. I can get a warranty replacement, but odds are the problem will happen again. They need to step up and replace with the G3.

That is crazy bad.
Have you tried Settings ! Gestures, de-selecting Knock-On. Powering down the device, powering it back up, selecting Knock-On, powering down and back up one more time, and trying it?
Normally an FDR would take care of low-level software issues that sometimes arise, since updates do not automatically do them. For whatever reason an update starts using un-initialized memory locations that are not deterministically set or there's some form of memory cache use / alignment issue that gets out of wack that only a special cache clear (which I don't think we could do on our phones unless they were modded), or an FDR can fix...

Oh yeah. The touchscreen firmware. On other model LG G2s for other carriers, there's a way to access a service menu via the Dialer to update the firmware. Unfortunately, VZW had disabled this.
Since you can't mod your device without voiding your warranty, I think the phone would have to be replaced or sent in for servicing.
Ouch

I have posted on many other threads, including my own, about these update issues. You have unlimited replacements on the G2. You will not get another model phone, be it manufacturer, brand, color or otherwise. This G2 is ours forever. You can upgrade early for a couple hundred dollars off a full price phone and extend contract or go certified pre-owned for a phone that is 3+ years old, if available. You can also sell your phone and maybe put it towards an early upgrade. Every update has broken my G2. I am on my 4th now. If the recovery partition, used to reset the phone to factory, is corrupted from an update you will not have success with any number of resets or wipes.

UPDATE:
Another update came in this morning. I gave Verizon the benefit of the doubt when I saw a new version - VS98026A - arrived on my phone. I quickly installed and rebooted, only to find the SAME EXACT PROBLEM.
It doesn't matter anymore though, so this thread can be closed: I switched to T-Mobile!!
Goodbye Verizon!!

I switched back from T-Mobile. No coverage. An un-bloated phone is no use without coverage.

I did an update to my LG G2 on 09/23/14 as required by Verizon. Ever since them my proximity sensor is messed up. It is not knocking on in dimly lit rooms at it should, it does not turn screen on when taking from my ear in dimly lit rooms. The only time it works correctly is when you have it under a direct light. This is a bug from the upgrade that needs to be addressed now, not later. This is ridiculous that the phone is less than a year old and is having this issue. I pay for the warranty but have been warned that any replacement phone is a "refurbished" phone, which may have other issues. This is again ridiculous, why pay for the warranty if you are going to end up just getting frustrated and screwed so that you end up paying for a new phone, retail price, anyway. Please Verizon, help us out!

Case52, I'm sorry to hear that your G2 is acting up after the software update. If i could I'd like to suggest backing all your information up to the VZW Cloud and confirming all info is saved. Then I'd suggest a hard reset (http://vz.to/1bEaoQu) to see if that'll fix it. If it doesn't and because you say your phone is under warranty. We can replace the device for you for free. The warranty device is a Certified Like New Replacement. You also have the option to have LG fix it and send it back to you. You have options and you're not just stuck with a broken phone.
