You don't need to buy more data to use sms or mms.  While those mms messages are sent via data, it doesn't count against your plan.  Make sure your network settings are set to LTE/CDMA and NOT Global.  Global is the cause for half the texting issues.  Also make sure you have mobile data enabled if sending or receiving mms.  SMS doesnt require data.  WiFi will not send or receive MMS.

We're here to help, rcaudill13. What happens when you try to send or receive an attachment? Are you doing this through text or email messages?

Hey Snn5, I had this problem before, trying to remember how I resolved it. But...I have never turned my mobile data on, I only use wi-fi, and I only turn that on when I'm using it specifically. I send and receive MMS messages all the time (using native app, not a downloaded one) and do not need either the mobile data or the wi-fi to do so. And my network settings are on global. So perhaps the problem is something else? I do recall doing a reset and not allowing any app related to Google do an update at all. Possibly that was it?

The popular misconception is that when you turn your mobile data off that is really off. True you cannot actually surf the net receive emails or other things like that when mobile data is off but MMS still uses data so in essence the radio still stays on even though you are not transmitting or receiving other types of data.  I have been going through this round and round for a few days now. I turn my mobile data off and the mobile data is not actually used but MMS still continues to use the data radio to send and receive.my only cure for my problem when I had MMS and texting problems with the stock app was to change to CDMA from global.

I should clarify.  If you go to your settings and tap on network and tethering, mobile network, and then type and strength you will see 2 radios active.  1X is for the transmission of voice.  4G/3G is for data.  You will see both active with mobile data off.  This explains why mms, text, and sms can be sent while mobile data is off.  If changing types fom Global to CDMA does not work, the only other way I have gotten it to work is by deleting old texts.  I usually dont have to worry about that because I replace the phone every 2 months.  I am on my 5th G2 in a year now.

Glad that worked for you. But I never changed mine. Shame that VZW can't figure out the one good solution for this.
