Notification tone not heard over music

I use my phone via aux jack in my car.  I can not hear the notification tones such as Maps or texts sometimes phone when music is playing through car speakers.  The volume with drastically reduce, so I know I have some sort of notification, but no actual sound.  All volumes are max.  Any ideas?

There is no solid answer to this question as after various system updates, app updates, app disabling and uninstalling the problem has gone away.
